I have owned season tickets to a local pro hockey team for about 6 years now.  The finally have a very small chance of making the playoffs (I doubt it).  So I got an email from the team stating that if we (season ticket holders) wanted playoff tickets, we would have to buy our season tickets for next year by March 7th or something like that.  Now correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the playoffs part of this season?  What the fuck do they have to do with next year?

Now I know the business decision behind it.  But it would make sense if the team actually won once and a while.  I do not think they will get away with this here.  I think it will hurt them in the long run.

Should I buy season tickets for next year, or tell them to fuck off?

I'd tell them to suck it long and suck it hard. I hope their arena is empty on game day.

That is crap.

Depends on how dedicated you are I suppose, are next years season tickets more expensive then?

This is how all NHL teams do it (or most, atleast). I have NY Islanders season tickets (since 2001, just about the same as you) and they're the same way.

Just be grateful you don't have a shitty arena like we do.

6 years, you seem pretty dedicated to the team. Nobody but you will be missing out if you don't buy the ticket.

Do it.

The Sabres have done that before.  It sells season tickets like crazy because people want playoffs tickets.

If you were planning getting the tickets for next year anyway, why not get them?

But that is my point.  At least other teams make the playoffs on a consistent basis.  These guys have never been.

My family has season tickets to the Angels.  We have to put the retainer for the next season by Dec. 31st.  For playoffs, the full amount is due by the end of August, even though the season does not end until September.  Basically, we have to pay for a full playoff package (all rounds) before the team even is assured a playoff spot.  If by chance they don't make the playoffs, the team uses the money paid for playoff tickets towards next years retainer.  It is bullshit.  81 games, 4 seats are ~$11,000.  Playoffs (about 11 games max.) are ~$5500.  It is a racket, but not too bad when split between 2 brothers and myself.

You should be entitled to purchase playoff tickets with the purchase of the regular season.  Did you plan on purchasing next season?  Maybe the retainer for the next season would/could be used for playoff tickets?  I don't know, sounds pretty ludicrous.

wow are you kidding me lol. i can get braves tickets for $5 everytime and can usually sit wherever i want. seems like a huge ripoff imo unless good seats are really that important.

If you are talking about the Columbus Blue Jackets, tell them to piss off. Cincinnati Bungals pulled that crap.

Tickets have been in my family since 1979.  We have moved up an average of a row or two every season.  The seats are like $36 per seat, 15 rows up from the Angels dugout right by the on deck circle.  They are good seats.  Plus if we/I sell them through the Angels TicketXchange on their website, my seats usually go for around $65/seat.  During the Yankees series last year, we sold seats for about $150 each.

I think I am going to do that.  Save some money and watch the game in high-def on my lazy-boy.

with football (soccer) season tickets, you get into all home games EXCEPT cup games and play-off games.

What? I don't have season tickets, but I have a Mini-pack for the moose, and we don't have to buy playoff tickets, untill the playoffs come. And the Moose, have only missed the playoffs like once in their 12 years.
