In China, the government takes its outward appearence very serious. Therefore, everyone in china takes it very serious.

They are not only training the fans, but basically redoing the whole area around the olympics. I was in beijng in October and the amount of construction they are doing is unbelievable.

Forgot to add that during the Olympics the locals will not be allowed to use cars, they have to use bicycles and public transportation.

I remember about 8 or 12 years ago (after one of the games ended) where the IOC was touring candidate country's and in China, the government bulldozed homes and shanti towns all over the place, painted the dirt green so it'd look like grass from the air, and did all sorts of ethical smoke screening..and it worked! Hopefully they didn't rebuild any shanti's over that painted dirt because the lead in that paint will be a bitch for the kids running on it and playing and eating it.
