This just seems like incompetence at every level. Seriously, not just one empty oxygen bottle, but TWO? Everything just seems like a tragic series of fuckups on every level which lead to the unnecessary death of this poor lady. :-/

Lawsuit big time.  Most airlines have rules pertaining to what can be working at what cannot be working.  For example, say you have a maintenance base in New York.  Then assume you have 4 bottles of O2 on board.  It most cases, you can defer 2 of the 4 until you get back to your main maintenance base.

Now not sure what happened here, but it seems something went wrong big time.  Although that is aviation.  That is what we refer to as "tombstone technology."

And on top of that the Defib's weren't charged/working. It's very sad that the woman died due to muti-layer incompetence on the airline's part.

Wtf aren't there supposed to be drop down oxygen masks  for loss of cabin pressure emergencies or did I just not read that part right?

I believe in the new Websters Dictionary this airline is the new picture caption for the word "sued".

i'm pretty surprised the doc's on the flight did anything -

article wrote:

Desir was put on the floor, and a nurse tried CPR, to no avail, Oliver said. A "box," possibly a defibrillator, also was applied but didn't function effectively, he said.

I'd like to see a picture of what the lady looked like, an American with heart disease, perhaps she shouldn't be flying...

Yeah, but what else could it be? A PS3?  I guess he couldn't say it was a defib for sure, but it's pretty likely.

I get to fly American today. Hooray for me!

To refuse help to someone in distress is shameful. If that is AA policy and not just a stupid stew, then watch out...punitive damages FTW.

First of all, this wasn't a flight accident it was a medical condition. It has nothing to do with flight safety.
The crew goes through first aid training and they have equipment with them but it's not a hospital.

Flying is safe because the pilots and cabin crew are highly trained for the task and the equipment is reliable and kept in good condition (atleast in most western comppanies). Unlike cars, aircraft don't fly unpredictably. Routes are planed and onboard systems as well as ATC will notify if a plane is heading into an other planes route.

It's a shock tittle which purpose is to get your attention.
It's not like the flight attendant just laughed and watched the lady die.
It's even said in the article that the crew tried to give her oxygen, but the tanks were empty.
(It's.)

Well, since I got the stew refusing to help from the text of the article and not the tittle (sic)...

A few minutes later, Desir said she was having trouble breathing and asked for oxygen, but a flight attendant twice refused her request

We don't know why she didn't give her oxygen, but they didn't have any either.
She might have refused because of that.
