Will be awhile before I make this purchase, but my current TV is 5 years old and showing its age. So which is better?

I paid $1600 for my plasma, and it looks better then most LCDs I have seen.Kmarion wrote:
As mentioned it depends on what you are willing to pay. Generally you get more in an LCD for the price. However some Plasma's are as good if not better in the higher price ranges.

Viewing angle on a LCD is way worse than a plasma!MrCookie wrote:
LCD = much less power usage than PLASMA. plus the view angle is wider.
PLASMA = often better quality than LCD. and its cheaper I think...
I have a LCD tv... Sharp Aquos.
As i guy i know have knowledge of tech you should know that contrast is close to insignificant if the rest of the specs can't follow up ... and you can never get deep black or the necesary number of shades of grey on a LCD, the very tech behind the LCD doesn't allow itKmarion wrote:
If you really want deep blacks and high contrast go with the Samsung's with smart lighting. It controls and turns off individual pixels. Let's see a plasma top 500,000:1.
Your joking right? Since resolutions are so similar now Contrast is one of the primary things to be looking at. Don't believe me? Just go to your local TV retailer and look. You can pick out the ones that have a higher contrast ratio, I absolutely guarantee it. Contrast is what gives a TV it's pop or 3d effect (since the range from the darkest dark to the brightest bright allows for a much better field of depth). With the Samsung it can control each individual pixel. Meaning it can completely turn off a pixel if needed. I doesn't get blacker than that. Pay attention to the specific model I was talking about silly. Don't just lump lcd technology all together. Time to get current, tech guy .Varegg wrote:
