The issue with slavery in the Americas was it was distinct in the manner that race and slavery were linked. Although slavery was an activity and normalized as a global issue until well into the 19th century, the manner in which the slavery business operated in the American (with this term, I speak of the Americas as a whole) colonies was different. The justification for the use of slavery by means of race is largely an American phenomenon.
Additionally, that it was relatively recent accounts for current feelings, as well as that these attitudes towards the past have continued to be felt by successive generations; albeit, it is not as large an issue as lowing makes it out to be. Largely, it is forgotten, and few wish for reparations. Treatments of blacks into the 50s and 60s, and issues of racism still today also contribute to these feelings.
As for the "White Entertainment Television" argument, I do believe that the idea of black nationalism is divisive and against our common interests, as any nationalism is. The reasoning of black culture is its own existence- As a group of people, there exists a greater common bond between the black community than the white community. You will not see white television or magazines because there isn't a common culture that white people enjoy in the same manner as black people. If someone were to create a "White Entertainment Television", it would most likely be racist. It would be unlikely that a program such as that would be devoted to a common culture, since little exists. On the other hand, there is common ethnic cultures that permeate white populations. The Irish and Scottish populations, to use an example, are significant in North America, and there still is a culture of these people. Think of kilts or St. Patrick's Day. These are the Caucasian expressions of culture that is concerned with genetic background.
