Which one would you prefer based on ease of learning the software and based on how useful it can be
photoshop or quarkXpress 7.0?

Erm, Quark Express isn't exactly used for the same things Photoshop is.
You would never use PS for the same things you use QuarkXpress for.

If you want to compare Quark to anything Adboe has made, then InDesign is probably the best bet. I am willing to bet that for Graphics design its better and more inutuitive.

InDesign is great.. but sometimes I just use Illustrator for that.
I don't like doing multiple page projects, for which InDesign is really for.

Yes. IMO Photoshop should be regulated to finish work i.e. fancy colors, distortion etc. and photo manip, as it was originally designed for. The rest should be done with software more specific to the type of work. (knowing what stuff you can download these days getting it should be no problem whatever it is)

Of course you shouldnt be trusting a word im saying, considering the only experience i have here is when i took a 3 credit class on this crap and used illustrator for about 2 months. Although i didnt get that good with the program in such a short time, it was likely enough to allow me to self-educate if i chose to.
