With the fight for the Democratic nomination a head heat, a lot of attention has been directed to the every mysterious Super Delegate.

It has become clear that they are the jokers in this card game, beholden to no one and, essentially, up for grabs. With so much power given to so few people, many Democrats are noting that this is, ironically, quite unDemocratic.

In what looks like an attempt to justify the formation of the Super Delegates, GERALDINE A. FERRARO, a Democratic Party elite, Super Delegate, and one of the primary architects of the super delegate system, wrote an op-ed in to the New York Times.

Instead, she does a near flawless job of pointing out exactly why we shouldn't have super delegates.

But the superdelegates were created to lead, not to follow. They were, and are, expected to determine what is best for our party and best for the country. I would hope that is why many superdelegates have already chosen a candidate to support.
Ferraro practically confirms the biggest fear Democrats hold; that even if one candidate wins the popular vote, the super delegates hold the power to over rule them, claiming its in the best interest of the party. Apparently they haven't bothered to realize that if that does happen, they won't have a party.

Besides, the delegate totals from primaries and caucuses do not necessarily reflect the will of rank-and-file Democrats
True, they represent the votes of everyone, not just the Democratic Zombies. Many states have closed primaries, so no one but Democrats can vote. But in those that have open primaries, we invite independents as well as disenfranchised Republicans to cross the isle and vote for who they prefer as well. Yes, this is the Democratic Nominee we are voting on, but he/she will still be the President of us all, so allow everyone to voice their opinion.

The arrogance with which Ferraro tries to defend her position is both infuriating as well as transparent. She knows she is in unneeded and unwanted, and now she's butt hurt.

Well, tough luck. Let the people decided, go to the back, and shut the hell up.

P.S: She is a proud supported of Clinton. May also explain some of her anxiety.

The more I examine the primary process, the more I wish we simply had non-partisan elections for president.   When parties get involved, special interests ignore the will of the people.

She got owned running in 1984 with Mondale. Doesn't that eliminate her credibility?

You would think that the 'Super Delegate' system would be part of the Republican party and not the same democrats that whined when Bush won Florida in 2000 and thus won the presidency with the electoral college system (simliar to delegates), but didn't win the popular vote.

You also wonder if Hillary will try to seat the delegates from Wisconsin and Florida that were barred because their states choose to move up their primary and punished?

Shouldn't those votes count?

Very good points, Harmor.  I would agree on both counts.

Although, it was Florida and Michigan.

They should count, but not after the fact. You can't change the rules late in the game. If Florida democrats knew their votes would matter (on the Dem side) it might have changed the dynamics/results.

I noticed how the talk of "the party" can be likened to George Orwell's 1984.  I hate this whole system of two major parties.  Nobody votes for the third parties.  I'd like to see them win an election, but first we need to fucking get rid of the rich people supporting the major parties.  In general, that, and the electoral college, blow.

Will she push for them? Probably, if she already hasn't. She's tried everything else to get votes (crying, yelling, more crying, etc...)

In the name of democracy, I believe that the Florida and Michigan votes should count. But in all fairness, they knew they were forfeiting their eligibility when they moved their primaries up.

To be honest, no one would really care about those states (minus the residents, of course) if Hillary didn't make such a stink about them. And the only reason she's making a fuss is because she's getting spanked. And not in the good way.

Nice thoughts, flawed logic. Orwell got that from the Soviets. I noticed you have said a few things are flawed, how do you think we should fix them/

On the electoral college thing, leave it to popular votes.  Instead of counting ALL of them nationally, count them indavidually on state and/or district levels, whoever gets the most popular votes in a state wins a state, then add up all the popular votes.  That's how Gore would've won.  Honestly the electoral college is pure bullshit.

As for rich fucks, make some federal system where all the parties that register get equal funding, and make it illegal for them to recieve any other type of funding.  Honestly I'm sick of these parties with wealthy people supporting them and getting them a ton of funding.

About the electoral college....I can sort of agree, the so called "rich fucks"...no. Federal Government spends WAY to much already, no need for more. I know your socialist, so you will probably disagree, maybe later in life you will change mind, I'm very tight with money, I go chasing after penny's like a idiot, so I don't want anyone taking my money. I have no problem with the rich giving to parties, you just shouldn't be able to buy your way into them. Its up to the people to decide who they want to have for president, not the "rich fucks" as you so aptly put it.

This idea has already been implemented in Canada.  It actually works pretty well in evening out the influence of each party.

I wanna move to Canadia.  I have a shirt that says "I am Canadian" I bought at a thrift store, but I have a habit of calling Canada "Soviet Canukistan."

Canada does seem pretty cool.  I don't think I could afford living there at the moment, but I may eventually move there.
