Vista tends to freeze less, in my experience. If it locks up, it finds a way unfreeze itself. XP doesn't do that.
I've been asking myself this same question recently - I can get a free copy of Vista (any version (a friend has an MSDN sub)), so have been thinking about trying it - but not sure if my PC will handle it...
Anyone had experience of Vista running on an AMD3200+, 2GB RAM with an X800XT PE AGP?
(serious answers only please)

2gb might not be the best with running vista on. It is a relentless ram sapping, power hungry, son of a bitch. I'd stick with XP.
I was going to have to get vista but because I had to get another model laptop at the last minute I got xp
I love xp because it runs my stuff well.
see
and TBH I didn't really mind the idea of changing to vista.. Its just really not necessary for me.

Well, I only need it to run - I'll be dual-booting - it doesn't need to be fast.TheAussieReaper wrote:

Actually, was that in response to me or OP?

Ran fine, and this was months and months ago.
Then it started shitting me, HDD thrashing while in games etc. Plus iTunes just refused to work (fuck off, it is a good program, and I'm not using something else).
Back to XP. Mine looks better anyway.
One thing to note - my internet was a couple of megabits faster with Vista compared to XP.
When i first installed Vista 1 year ago my system was: 3500+, 1.5gb ram, x800pro.Scorpion0x17 wrote:

My windows index score was 4 and you need at least 3 to run Aero. So it should work okay on your PC.
Bur beware of troubles...
That will work if you don't plan to play high-end games on it. For browsing and chatting it's more than enough. One remark though, this will only work for a 32 bit vista version, on a 64bit vista 2GB is not optimal.Scorpion0x17 wrote:

K, thanks Reaper, Timmmmmmmmmmah, sup and de jappe...
Yes, 32bit (sorry should have specified, it's an Athlon 3200+ I've got, not a 64bitter) and no, won't be playing games or the like - I'll be keeping my optimised XP install for that.
Unfortunately it looks like my friends msdn sub may well have just run out today (I just went to the MSDN site to try downloading Vista Ultimate) and it's giving me an 'error'... :'(
anyhoo... I'll stop hijacking the thread now...

No, i want the move option not the cut option. And if i press ALT i get a menu bar but it doesn't give me the option i want.steelie34 wrote:

Does anyone know where is the "move" option? I want to move files not copy them and i can't seem to find this option.
Click down on the files and drag them?
i'm not sure i know what you mean by moving (other than cut/paste) where did you used to find this 'move' option?.... typically, if you drag and drop files from one partition to another, windows copies by default, but if they are on the same partition, it moves them.

In XP,
- hold shift + dragndrop to move from one drive to another, dragndrop to copy
- hold CTRL + dragndrop to copy to same drive, dragndrop to move
- hold shift + dragndrop to move from one drive to another, dragndrop to copy

Your thoughts, insights, and musings on this matter intrigue me
Firefox 2 sucks ass, get the beta. Its webstandards are far superior.TSI wrote:
I also read that you want to use Vista to surf the net. Bad idea, IMO. Windows Internet explorer 7 is out now, and Firefox 2 as well. They're the best, I would say. Your OS would not do too much to change that.
If there is one thing I like about Vista though, it's that USB-drive turns into RAM thing. Wish XP had that (maybe on SP3)
Vista is very much worth your while. It can be a bit of a resource hog, but you can turn things off if you want (such as live preview of windows etc)
Yes, it can be a resource hog, but it's worth it on systems that can handle it.
Boy, it sure is popular to hate things here, isn't it?
