I think that would have been intense to say the least.

What the fuck was the pilot doing?

I blame ATC

Seriously though, I don't think that Pilots should be made to land passenger jets in those conditions. Although the whole fuel matter probably makes it that they have to land in that area.

Wouldn't want to be in the plane with that happening, actually I would. That would be fucking awesome.

edit: Gooners, it was the wind.

A reoccurring joke from the other thread about that Airliner crashing in Heathrow a few months ago

Always ruining jokes

Looked like he was attempting a fairly standard crosswind landing, and had a sudden gust hit the aircraft right before touching down.

winds were really crazy here in Western Europe over the weekend indeed, (100km/h / 110km/h winds here) that looked kinda scary for the passangers tho, they would like be seeing the runway?

Well I would enjoy it, I think I'm turning into a thrill junkie these days. It shall be my demise, but at least it'll be fun.

Something like this happened to me...not as intense, but still. Going into MCO (Orlando Intl for you aviation nubs), we hit a really bad storm and coming in, the pilot obviously had trouble, and we had to speed up just before touching down and try the landing again just like the pilot here did.

Scary stuff.

It appears to me he took out his crosswind correction way to abruptly.

Edit: @usmarine
There was a strong gust of wind right when the pilot aligned with the runway. The planes fuselage blocked the wind from the left wing while the right wing got the full force. Left wind had considerably less lift compared to the rigt wing and the plane tilted.

Quick correction, pull up and try again.

Edit2: this is @ Poseidon then
It's standard procedure, the pilots know what they are doing.
If the winds are withing the given limits (as they were in this case) they will atempt to land.

I had a similar experience to what those passengers must have had but in a far smaller plane (ATR 72-200 I think).

I know. I have done many crosswind landings in gust conditions.

Whenever I've seen these things, the adjustment is usually done right around the same time as on that video. That bounce after the adjustment, probably either from hitting the ground too hard, or with too much air under the wings, looks like the real culprit.

No, I know all too well that it is. I wouldn't want them landing it anyways if they didn't think they could do it without fucking shit up. :S

Yep Ive also had a few dodgy experiences but this is rediculous, how did this aircraft even get clearence to land. The control tower knows about wind speed and direction. They obviously thought, what the heck, just let them land, they will be fine. Hope some heads roll!

It was within the limits for that plane.
