1.12:
- I never died due to AA in a jet. I was more likely to crash by accident.
- I died sometimes due to AA in a helicopter. Mostly I would avoid it with sudden changes in direction.
- I died sometimes due to enemy jets, while flying. If the pilot was better than me, and was using MG instead of missiles.
1.2
- I haven't had much trouble with the new AA while I'm in a Jet. Fixed position will always lose to a mobile position, all you have to do is MG them on your first pass, then bomb the base on the second pass.
- Helicopters are now incredibly vulnerable to AA. This is realistic. In 1.12, a Helicopter could dodge an AA missile by just changing direction quickly. So what do you do? Just have a decent gunner put a TV on it. If you have a crap gunner, just empty missiles into it on first pass.
- Dogfights are now a LOT more fun. If someone gets behind you and stays behind you, you're dead. That's realistic, that's also cool, and it means that you have to fly well all the time, not just when you're threatened.
I love how people bitch about the realism only when it suits them. Wah wah it's not realistic that an AA can take down a Jet so easily. It's also not realistic that a jet would make an attack run from 10m above the ground, or that a jet can be resupplied by flying near a runway. What do the invisible ground crew do, throw the ammunition onto the plane? It's a GAME and the changes have been made for BALANCE. The jet is still a potential death machine, if you are reading this and saying "bs, it's impossible not to die", I have news for you, YOU CAN'T FLY. I also don't care what your KD ratio, total kills, or total time in jet is like, because in 1.12 it was easy as hell to just keep bombing spawns over and over without ever being skilled. 80% of my air to air kills in 1.12 were against noob jet pilots who would drop countermeasures, do a loop, think that they were safe and resume a straight, flat, slow flight path to drop bombs. It was easier to kill jet noobs in 1.12 than it was to kill blackhawks. Juicy juicy blackhawks.
By the way, n00b.Worx, if you think realistic teamwork = minigunning people from a blackhawk as they spawn, for me that effectively prevents any of your arguments to be at all convincing. There's this movie, Black Hawk Down, and in it, I don't know, something happens to the Blackhawks, I can't quite remember what, something that demonstrates that even with teamwork and miniguns, BHs are extremely vulnerable to even normal missiles, let alone guided.
If you're in a jet at ground level flying in a straight line and pressing X when you hear beeping
If you're in a helicopter hovering around trying to shoot infantry while enemies lock onto you
This patch is reminding you that you haven't got the skills.
I am not trying to claim I am a hot pilot or I'll never get shot down now. What I will do is learn to adapt. This patch will weed the good pilots from the bad.
MAYBE NOW I WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE OFF WITHOUT TEAMMATES THROWING THEMSELVES AT MY PLANE AND PRESSING PAGEDOWN BECAUSE THEY WANTED THE PLANE
