The actual cores are derived off of G70 and R500.

This is the 7-series and X1000 series.

Must keep in mind, consoles take years to develop, so they are always years behind the current generation of technology.

For being years behind, they still look pretty damn good though.

I believe the Xbox360 is running on a card similar to the X1900XTX. I could be wrong, though.

Also keep in mind that games are optimized and coded specifically to run on that hardware, so it is much more effective than similar PC hardware.

I'm pretty sure the PS3 is the equivalent to a 7800.

Staff at Sony were quoted in PlayStation Magazine saying that the "RSX shares a lot of inner workings with NVIDIA 7800 which is based on G70 architecture. Since the G70 is capable of carrying out 136 shader operations per clock cycle, the RSX was expected to feature the same number of parallel pixel and vertex shader pipelines as the G70, which contains 24 pixel and 8 vertex pipelines. [2]

In August of 2005, an nVidia spokesperson was quoted in PlayStation Magazine as saying "the RSX GPU is basically a slightly less powerful GeForce 7800" [[10]] which is not true. In fact, nVidia responded to this claim[3] by stating that the Playstation 3's RSX (which NVIDIA worked on) is more powerful than the GeForce 7800.
You sir, are correct

As for the Xbox360:

Wikipedia wrote:

The Xenos GPU is a custom graphics processing unit (GPU) designed by ATI, used in the Xbox 360 video game console. Developed under the codename "C1,"[1] it is in many ways the precursor to the R600 desktop PC graphics card series. The chip contains two separate silicon dies: the parent GPU and the daughter eDRAM.

Pretty sure CoD4 looks better on my 360, than on your PC.

And have fun trying to play Assassins Creed on your computer.

It all goes back to this, the heavy specific optimization. It's why GT5 can look better than most current PC games and be running on generation old hardware.
