You gotta love the shameless cheer leaders that make up the trifecta of Rush Limbaugh, Shan Hannity and the republican nominee.
Rush was saying the other day that the gas prices dropped when Reagan was elected;
https://i27.tinypic.com/ngnq1.gif

Then he said they spiked when the democrats won the mid term elections; https://i28.tinypic.com/j08njn.jpg

The fact is, whether by action, or inaction most of the blame lies at the feet of the republican party. A devalued dollar, inflation and an war of questionable need and dubious execution are what has jacked up world wide markets. Who was at the helm while shady mortgage deals were being brokered? Under whose watch did credit card interest rates go to 29.99%? Enron?

If Bush has led by example it is into a abyss. No republican or conservative in his right mind would support a government ran by " conservatives " that allow an open border and allow corporations and banks to plunder the public. The Bush administration has made the best arguments for limits to capitalism, because left unchecked big business is no different than a jackal scavenging in the desert. Just like big government.
Here's one more graph;

The price of standard crude oil on NYMEX was under $25/barrel in September 2003, and with inflation adjustments had remained below this mark since the mid 1980s. A series of events led the price to reach over $60 by August 11, 2005, surpass $75 in the summer of 2006, fall to between $50 and $60/barrel in the early part of 2007, then rise steeply, reaching $92/barrel by October 2007 and $99.29/barrel for December futures in New York on November 21, 2007.

Not sure we do anymore, tbh. It all goes back to the current administration. Lying bastards. The lied about everything and the republican party deserves to suffer for it.
I don't listen to the right wing talking heads when they say Barracks policies will bankrupt America because the right wing policies are doing it anyway AND they are getting thousands of good Americans killed in the process.
Shameless failures.

I wouldn't put all the blame on Republicans, but neoconservatives are definitely the worst thing that's happened to the Republican party.  They need to go back to the Libertarian wisdom of Barry Goldwater.  The Religious Right in combination with the military industrial complex has essentially dumbed down the party.

Yeah, as fucked up as the Republican party is now I am surprised it doesn't get more support from liberals.

There's a simple answer to that.  Big government isn't solely a liberal thing.  Big government on the right wing mostly involves invasive social policies with excessive military spending and interventionism.

True smaller government is practiced by Libertarians.  Granted, I can't say I always agree with Libertarians, but it amuses me when the Republicans claim to stand for smaller government despite being the ones that dramatically increased government spending between 2001 and 2006.  They knew how to limit government when Clinton was in charge, but they went crazy with spending once Bush entered office.

As things currently stand, Democrats comparatively spend less than Republicans.

I'll put it this way...  I'd rather have people in charge that raise taxes than people who lower taxes but don't also lower spending.

Bush's tax cuts could have accomplished much more for our economy if he had only cut spending in the appropriate amounts.  The Republicans had the power to actually shrink government between 2001 and 2006, but they blew it.

hit the nail on the head. as social policies expand --medicaid, medicare, fire departments, education, etc. the bureaucracy must expand, and vice versa. its an infinite loop that feeds itself.

however, the major problem is the way budgeting is done. all these bureaucracies and senatorial committees are afraid of losing their money and power and so they spend every cent they get even when its not necessary, which is the real reason we're fucking broke.

There's also a ton of corporate welfare that needs to be ditched.  Privatizing and phasing SS into state-based programs would also save a lot of money on the federal level.

Yup, non discretionary, non military spending exploded under Bush and that is the failure he will forever own. Iraq, that's a debate. The fact that Bush is a liar who spends like a drunk sailor is not.

That is possibly the most facepalm-able attempt to blame democrats I have ever seen...

Srsly. That would take a person half a second to see through.
