A lot? That is a bit of an overstatement. You can make sure your fans are working, that is about it.
But really, you aren't going to burn anything up, it is like booting your PC and your GPU fan and your case fans scream until your BIOS posts, it is exactly the same thing. The CPU and GPU aren't actually doing anything, so they are not creating heat.
That link said that they thought it was a failsafe trying to blow away the extra heat, but it actuality it is just a hard boot and the fan goes to 100% to test that it is functioning.
And Sony isn't going to tell you anything that wasn't originally released in the instruction manual is safe. If they said, oh yeah I guess what is okay to do, it would make them sound incompetent, so they will just deny deny deny even without a realistic reason.
