Don't fucking do it. I'd personally not run the risk of potentially fucking something up. Look it up on some forums before making the decision yourself.

Don't mind the title, but this article shows why we have such low failure rates on our PS3's, because a lot of work went into heat dissipation.

Do it. It actually is a good way to blow all the dust out.

After posting it I realized it was a stupid Q to ask. I am not going to do it. First of all if it was good sony would have announced it a long time ago. Secondly it just seems stupid.

It's not the fun. Probably there will be more heat, hence why the fan is going faster...

Mate of mine runs like this pretty much constantly, it really doesnt sound healthy :\  I thought it was a pretty serious heating issue, though, after five months of it doing it, his is still going fine, appart from the jet engine noise off that thing.  Mine is whisper quiet.

if it was going to burn something up, then why would sony put that mode in. It is for dust removal. Less dust means cooler running PS3

yeah, why would running your fans at full speed damage the console?

I lol'd at that. The only damage I could imagine it doing if it somehow isn't intended to happen would be perhaps burning out the fans by overvolting them.

Why isn't it in the manual then? In the manual it says, clean it with vacuum or something like that. Obviously, it's not meant to be there.

Yeah ,  the speed of those fans were loud , sounded like it was going to fly out , but a cool Ideal , maybe Sony will put that feature in the next generation of there Systems.

"Now it blows all the dust out, and it is actually a Fan Test, and you can do a lot with that."

A lot? That is a bit of an overstatement. You can make sure your fans are working, that is about it.

But really, you aren't going to burn anything up, it is like booting your PC and your GPU fan and your case fans scream until your BIOS posts, it is exactly the same thing. The CPU and GPU aren't actually doing anything, so they are not creating heat.

That link said that they thought it was a failsafe trying to blow away the extra heat, but it actuality it is just a hard boot and the fan goes to 100% to test that it is functioning.

And Sony isn't going to tell you anything that wasn't originally released in the instruction manual is safe. If they said, oh yeah I guess what is okay to do, it would make them sound incompetent, so they will just deny deny deny even without a realistic reason.
