What should I do?

Spoiler (highlight to read):
I've got the classic nForce problem, it won't boot with all slots full of RAM. Anyone got any tips for helping this?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Would take one out be an obvious solution? =p If not why not try getting some stuff in larger modules?

They're 512s, and I'm not paying for RAM for this crappy thing.

I think our server has the same board. We use 1.5GB of DDR333 RAM and it works flawlessly...and has taken a bit of a beating over the years, too!

Well then don't complain if you are not willing to fix the problem.

Well, there has to be a way to get it working with three sticks, if there wouldn't be, they wouldn't put three slots on it.

This is my secondary rig, I've paid 15€ for the CPU, 5 for the HD. (Sweet deal, 5€ for 200GB ) I'm looking for free solutions here.

Have you tried reducing the memory speed from 200MHz to 166MHz?

Yeah, just did that.

I've tried:

RAM speeds 200, 166, 133, 100MHz
Lower and higher timings
2.6, 2.7 and 2.8v
Unplugging some IDE devices
Resetting CMOS

Maybe one slot is broken. Does it work if you put a single stick in it?

Yes it does, I've been using this board for months.

It is a bug with the nForce boards, there isn't a way to fix it I believe it is in the BIOS, if your board is old enough that they aren't releasing BIOS updates for it, you are SOL.

Why not just use 1 gb of mem instead of 1.5?

It's main purpose is to run BF2, so I need as much RAM as possible.

You are running BF2 on a board with DDR333? Hah! Get a new computer if that things main purpose is to run BF2.

Not an option, really, as I need more than 1GB in this machine. And if I'd just give in that easily, I wouldn't have made this thread.

First of all, DDR333 is more than enough for BF2. Any DDR is, really. Second, this is DDR400. Third, you would know, if you would've read the thread, that this is not my main computer. I've got 2GB DDR800 in my gaming rig.

EDIT: The problem seems to have been solved by overclocking the RAM, feeding it with 2.8v, and running it at lower-than-stock timings.

I had the same issue with similar board, all I ended up doing was putting the default timings/voltages on the ram (in my case all 4 sticks were the same)

yeah I know you have a gaming rig, so why are you making another one that is shitty to run BF2, why not run it on your gaming rig?

Because I have a little something called "friends" that also want to play BF2, believe it or not.
