Load of crap i said.
I've been on a 22km hike with two of my buddies. That was fun. It pissed rain the first day but the second day was 24+ degrees celcius with blue sky. "Big Mud" was interesting, we ended up clinging to thorn bushes on the side of the trail to keep from falling in the lake that occupied the middle of the trail. That lasted about 5km right before the end of the trip.
Best part is taking the boots off at the end of the day
The last two trips i went on it pissed it down, so badly one of our routes was changed most of the way through, we had to take a detour to some other place to get a pickup to another camp site. We didn't mind there was a pub at the other place.
This wasn't just rain though this was something else, considering we do all our hikes in the lakes and don't mind getting soaked it was just something else then (full sets of waterproofs didn't fully stop it and your hands and face froze.
I discovered that my hands actually swell up when its that bad, i have large hands anyway so they were huge when they swelled, I couldn't even get my hand into the pack of pringles we had
.
I also discovered that i was the only person in our entire group (about 15 of us that day) who could ignore the cold). At the camp site we were forced to stay at when the rain destroyed half a day there were showers, sadly you had to pay a quid to get 4 minutes of hot water. Of course i didn't have any money and nobody else had any change so i just decided to go in anyway even though it was ice cold. (you got water at about 1 degree C for free it seems. Bloody cold but still good, stayed in there for about 5 minutes (lol) getting the mud off from that day.
We were meant to be camping up next to this small lake where there was no actual site or facilities (as usual tbh) so we'd just put up camp anywhere, but the rain was so bad that apparently there wasn't any land that we could camp on that hadn't been swallowed up by the lake.
A site with toilets and showers, no matter how cold was still a nice surprise though.
Oh and don't do what someone in my group did the first weekend and take 17 bottles of beer, 14 broke and everyone stole the last 3.
