I have 1x250GB and 1x500GB HDDs in my PC.

So I installed XP and noticed that there were 2 HDDs under "My Computer", and that one was 127GB, so I assumed I had made some partition or something my accident when I installed it, and that the new 500GB wasn't working for some reason.

However, I later found out that the other one was 232GB. so I have 1x232GB and 2x127GB when I should have 1x250GB and 1x500GB.

The 232GB ( C: ) has the system files from my previous Vista Install, While the 127GB ( D: ) has the current install files.

So C: could well be the old 250GB, but how did 500GB turn to 127?

Btw, the 500GB turns up in BIOS.

Remove all partitions, start over.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Does that include re-installing Windows?

Yup.

Nope. You can get software for it, and do it in the Windows install. Your partitions are fucked up, so it's best to just start over clean.

the 250 gig reads correct.  The way hdd manufactures and windows define a GB is different.

BEFORE YOU WIPE EVERYTHING, Jens, if you haven't already...

First a couple of questions:

1. What are you trying to achieve? (having both XP and Vista installed so you can choose between them?)
2. Is the Vista install working? (can you boot into it?)
3. Is there any data you want to save on either HDD?

If you are trying to multiboot (having both XP and Vista useable), you may be able to save yourself some hassle, by repartitioning the 500GB from Vista...

Or it may be quicker to just start from scratch...

To actually see what hard drives are in use (and not just the partitions), go to hard drive monitor.....

RMC My Computer-->Manage-->Disk Management (Its under Storage).

It should have Disk 0, Disk 1 etc with the partitions shown.

and RMC=Right Mouse Click
