Why can't there be any civilians inside the buildings during the game.  It would just rock to use a person as a human shield!  All AI players though.  Maybe the players could have the option of being a civilian with maybe a handgun or something.  Anyways, just a thought.

oh man that would be some insane lag.  but once i get a new computer i will have to say that would be kinda cool. and also to make it a bit more of a challenge, how about like -1 points for killing them?

-1 for killing them would be for SOME armies - what about the insurgents and rebels in SF? i dont think they would care if they killed civilians. They might even get +1

Couldnt agree with you more on the "lag" part bro.
Im running a 9800pro 1Gb RAM and a AMD athlon 64 3000+ CPU.
Not exactly top of the line

Perhaps smaller 16 player maps could have civilians in them, since 16 player maps are usually very stress free on your system to due to the small amount of players and the size of the map, thus leaveing room for extra details (i.e civilians).

And perhaps accidentally injuring civilians could cost you points just as a Teamkill would.

on each map though, they should have a hiddne terrorist, and while your fighting the opposing side, you gotta try and find the terrorist before he blows up your communications base

They probably thought of putting NPC's in BF2, but with the way the game lags now, even on some higher-end computers, I'm sure they're reserving it for Battlefield 2142, or whatever they'll call BF3.

But, imagining for the moment that BF2 could have civilians, I would imagine that propaganda would be a useful commander tool. Say your team manages to avoid killing tons of civilians, you could push that to your advantage by distributing pamphlets or blasting propaganda over loudspeakers. Eventually, civilian bots with handguns, molotov cocktails and looted rifles will begin to fight your enemy. The enemy, being forced to kill them in defense, would rapidly lose any chance of getting them on their side.

Avoiding civilian casualties would give airpower food for thought...

Well it would make the game more interesting but EA would never go for it.  If a player had the ability to kill innocents there would be no way the ESRB would give the game a "T" rating and as we all know "T" rated games sell ALOT more than an "M" rated game.  Politically such a game design would give vid games an even worse reputation amongst the ignorant (http://www.randomcraponline.com/jack-th … mer-death/)

GTA will always sell copies nobody listens to game ratings.i bet 30% of people who bought san andreas bought it far a younger person at christmas.i wouldnt be suprised if its more than 30%.

True, though. A company as large as EA probably wants to avoid bringing too much political scrutiny down on their heads, even if it means not satisfying some of their customers. And at this point, I don't think the Battlefield engine could handle much more without forcing people to engage in an orgy of upgrades.

how would it create lag. You wouldn't get lag if a new player joined in right? I mean civillians would be awesome but not for conquest or else some idiot would spawn rape them . But maybe in like objective modes if DICe ever get smart and add those back in

The server would still have to do the thinking for their AI, and people would still have to render all the extra polies and animations.

Would be cool for singleplayer mode, but not for multiplayer too much lagg. But you could also add when u actually shoot the civilian, whether he is used as a shield or not that u get minus points.. else all civilians would be dead in like -00001 seconds?
