READ THE POST FIRST
Not that I want to be bossy but it's important to consider the asumptions made in the post, and they are simply assumptions but I think atleast there fairly accurate. On my daily browsing, as often as not I end up on a tech form of some description as afterall it is something I, and a lot of us are interested in. Now, I don't know about anyone else but I have observed a HUGE number of utter fanboys claiming this that and the next thing, and the majority of them, don't have a clue, but what the hell thats fine, if brand loyalty is something that concerns you then fair enough. But it is specifically the Nvidia lot that are anoying me, and I put this question to many of them and am dumbfounded by the result, so I will replicate it here.
If we assume, that the new Nvidia card is quicker than the next ATI (and it almost certainly will, its a high end card vs a mid range afterall) then fair enough on face value Nvidia > ATI. But not as simple as that. Let's also assume, that the figures of $200-250 for the RV770 is right, and $500-600 for the 280 GTX is also correct. Here is my question.
Considering those prices, if we assumed, that the 4870 in crossfire scaled enough to beat the 280 GTX in all your precious benchmarks, and cost less, overall, what would you buy? So to simplfy that, one GTX jumps up and down all over one 4870, BUT, two 4870s reverse that scenario.
I was stunned to see how many went for the Nvidia option, infact nearly 3/4 of them went for Nvidia. Now, like I said, it doesnt affect me, and infact I wonder why I even care, but I find it quite interesting how people who claim to know it all seem to lack a bit of logic.
Am also aware of the fact, for crossfire you would need a suitable motherboard, AND a fairly meaty power supply to run the thing (though the 280 GTX aint exactly going to be renound for enviromentally friendlyness). I also consider that many own SLI motherboards and thus want to stay with the Nvidia brand, and/or would look into SLI two GTX cards at some point. But excluding that, on face value what would you go for?
Am not a fanboy either btw (although looking at this post it kinda seems that way), I'd just like to point out, though I would like to see ATI beat Nvidia this round and spark some, God forbid, competition? But hey am kinky that way.
