The original article makes no claim about price / performance, just performance. And in that sense it is an unfair comparision.

if you've been paying attention to graphics news lately, the GTX 280 is going to be priced at around $600, and the 4870X2 will be priced around $500.

actually the gtx is close to 700$

debatable.  all i know is that the price of the GTX 280 > the price of the 4870X2.

it was only a broma, and i used to be a nvidia fanboy myself until the 4000 specs and prices were unearthed.  now i have realized that the real way to go is to support whichever company has the upper hand atm, and in a couple weeks, it is bound to be ATi.  if Intel magically made a beastly chip appear right now, i would snatch it up.  it's not the brand, it's the performance/price.

I'll have to agree on this one but so far i had no problems (luckily) with graphics drivers.

interesting... I hope ATi kicks some nv butt so we can get awsome cards for decent price from BOTH companies. I personally can't wait for the HD 58x0 series to go with my X58 Nehalem build. (unless there would be SLi support for X58. in my dreams tbh...)

Not at all. ATi have kicked the crap out of NVidia in 3DMark with their last generation of cards, but in terms of real world performance the Nvidia cards were far superior. Show me some benchmarks on a bunch of games and the actual prices (not the RRP bullshit as it's always ~$100 higher) and then I'll make up my mind about what card to get.

Anyway, if I may answer haffey's unwarranted attack on my person (;P) for myself - actually I own (and am more of a fan of) an ATI gpu - so, ner!

But, my alterego got it about right - I never believe stats until someone reputable like Tom's has got their hands a final release build.

EDIT: Likewise with prices - companies generally don't release their true pricing structures before release - gives the competition too much information.

The short story: not enough, not nearly enough. It is barely faster than a GX2, yields are crap...

I take news from the Inquirer with a bit of salt.  That being said, if the results are true, lol for nVidia.  The 2nd link isn't working atm either.
