Sorry FF. I had this page open many hours ago, saw a post talking about signatures and decided I'd have a crack at one. By the time I was done, you had a signature already up with many members using it! Besides, it gave me a useful chance to work on basic animation - because I just can't do that, heh. I like your contrasting colours, mind you ...
Both equally effective tbh, i just like shiny moving things haha. It's good this has taken off - it serves as a constant reminder throughout the forum.kylef wrote:

Yea, makes sense. But maybe if there are mods for specific forums, the rules would be more strict, and more well kept.Flaming_Maniac wrote:
The idea so far is that anyone trusted to moderate a certain aspect to the site should be trusted enough to moderate any aspect to the site. That said, with things shifting around a bit and the important addition of groups, that may change some. For example if the tech team and the graphics team are by invite/application only, maybe they would have additional privileges in their respective forums. Perhaps there will be a new round of mods appointed as well when we go to trackr, that would also make sense.Ryan wrote:

Yea, I quoted myself
It's easier to control a few people in one forum moderated by one person, than an entire forum moderated by say 10 or so.
But that also depends on the size of the forum itself.
Mine's the best.FatherTed wrote:

Well DST is returning, and DST is even worse than EE. While it does have less spam it has something much worse that EE does have, personal attacks and flaming
Exibit A
Exibit B
Exibit C
As bad as spam is, it's not the worst thing to be on a forum. Flaming/Personal attacks might be. EE has minimum Flaming and allot of spam. DST has much Flaming and a good amount of spam itself.
So why is EE gone but not DST?

But there's nothing to be achieved by shifting the focus elsewhere.

So far, that's not flaming.
Occasionally someone crosses the line in DaST, but not often - it is Debate and Serious Talk - Debate is, by it's nature understood, by it's participants, to be combative, and serious talk can sometimes get heated.
Searched around and found this, don't know if it's worth the read or not:
Guide to Combatting Comment Spam
It's a long read, but I'm sure there are some interesting points in there.

I can not comply. Take away my spam, trolling and personal attacks and what do I have left?

Never actually spammed that much tbh, but I admit that I did sometimes.
I was invited to trackr and it's beautiful, but is sadly only missing the "Everything Else" section. And that is because some of you can't stop being dickheads all the time. I'm telling you now, you're going to regret if you don't change now. Everyone is gonna pay.
Edit: oh and welcome back ig

I think you're misunderstanding the point of a community. A community isn't formed because you have something that people need. A community is formed from like-minded people sharing a common interest. That's why BF2S is a community, and not just a statistics site. If you want a community, you need to listen to the people who actually make the community. That's not just Chuy, it's definitely not just you, or just the mod group. It's everyone, and the vast majority of this "everyone" consists of the users who you're talking to in that condescending tone. We all have an influence over the site, as it exists solely because of our participation.Flaming_Maniac wrote:
Says you, who has zero influence over the site. Chuy makes the rules, and so help me if you tards can't keep it together enough to let us have a less serious section I will hunt every one of you down.Poseidon wrote:
This is not the military. All of us should not suffer from the actions of few. And especially this drastically.
All, and I mean ALL gaming sites that I go to have an off topic section. They would simply be boring if all they talked about were games. People would slowly leave trackr. We are a community. If we can't talk about things happening in our life and whatnot and current non-serious events in the world, it will simply be a boring site to go on
Conversely, as a moderator, you need to respect the users, because your "status" exists because of them, and it definitely doesn't elevate you to a point where you can allow yourself to talk condescendingly to other people. On the contrary, you need to be an example as a moderator - not just another "tard", as you put it.
Honestly, you complain about people acting like idiots, but you're letting yourself slip in the process. Check yourself before you check others.
Amusingly, you could replace your name in the quotation with those of the majority of Everything Else regulars, and it'd reflect their sentiments exactly. It's a community, Flaming. It'd do you good as a moderator to listen to the majority of the community, rather than shut them off and ignore the people who make you a moderator.Flaming_Maniac wrote:
You are killing my BF2S. I love this site, I throughly enjoy the information, the laughs, and the wonderful time wasting ability it has, and you guys are taking that away from me. Listen, Flaming. I read the thread, and didn't get a satisfying answer to the question I posted. If I did, I wouldn't have posted my question. I only just commented that I find your condescending demeanor and offensive insults to be very unfitting for a moderator, and then you go right ahead and make this kind of arrogant and condescending assumption instead of just replying to my comments.

I will as long as on trackr we get a " Rate the Girl above you" thread
As I said before this community is led by one person. One. Ein. Uno. He has made every important decision, listened to who he felt needed to be listened to and ignored who he thought should have been ignored, and he has taken us this far. You, me, community members, mods, anyone who thinks they have control over this site but chuy is out of their mind.mikkel wrote:

Examples of times when chuy did what he thought should be done and ignored protest:
- adding karma
- removing negative karma
- changing permanent ban policies
- forcing approval for registration
- changing the name of JD
- changing sig limitations x2
just to name a few. I certainly haven't agreed with all these, and the majority of people have probably disagreed with most of them. However he stuck with it, and it has turned out just fine with very little vocal protest on any of these points. You may help make up the community, but you do not own the community. chuy does.
The position comes straight from chuy. He's the only one that can grant it, he's the only one who can take it away. (if you discount profile suicide)mikkel wrote:

I do not think this gives me any right at all to treat people like crap. You're right, if anything, I should be setting an example, and I strive to in moderating and admining the game servers. I hold myself to what I believe is the highest moral standard. I don't react with moderator action to anyone speaking against me, I don't take bans lightly, I talk through my warns and bans with anyone who has a problem with them.
However, that does not mean I can no longer voice my opinion. I have just as much of a right to discuss my opinions here as you do, so long as we are both within the rules. When people come in and start talking about how unfair it is that a whole bunch of people are being punished for the actions of a few spammers, especially when they aren't exactly an angel themselves, it makes me mad. It makes me mad that so many are complaining about how unfair it is when other administrators and I have spent hours cleaning up the crap people post in this section, discussing the fate of the spammers, and working to keep the section so that we and others can have fun with it. When people tell me how to do my job, or hold my position against me in an argument but don't feel strongly enough about it to submit a complaint, it makes me mad. It makes me mad when I drop hints about what the impending consequences will be or shove them in someone's face, and people still won't listen to what I am quite sure is the best course of action to keep the section.
It would reflect their sentiments, because they don't understand the process no matter how many times I post it. They did it to themselves. The mods have done everything possible to keep spam in check, but chuy does not feel it is at acceptable levels. Most of the people that are trying to make logical arguments for keeping EE are the ones that it never would have been in danger in the first place without, because they're the spammers that put us in this position.mikkel wrote:

If EE was without spammers, it would be safe. If EE had zero moderation, it would have been gone six months ago.
Again, the community does not make me a moderator. The only things I listen to when making decisions concerning this site are what chuy has directed and my own moral compass. Doing the popular thing isn't what the site needs. If I did the popular thing, more spammers than I can count on two hands would never have been banned and wouldn't have reformed, I would have showed everyone their post count, and I would have gone rogue and banned Orangehound and Bernadictus a long time ago.
As a side note, if you feel I have acted inappropriately, feel free to pm me about it so I can either talk with you about it or so I can post it in the moderator section for review. If you don't feel comfortable coming to me about it, go to another mod.
