In this forum, we often talk about how the government will twist the truth to serve its agendas in the Middle East by doing things like overstating the effectiveness of the surge. However, there is another side to propaganda in the War on Terror -- the propaganda in favor of insurgents.

Observe the picture below...

Notice anything strange?

The woman pictured claims that the bullets she's holding hit her house during a coalition raid. I guess the soldiers must have thrown them, since they are still in their casings.

The questions I have are... How much of the media coverage of the occupation do you think is being affected by people sympathetic to the insurgents deliberately lying to the press, and how much of the press itself do you think is sympathetic to the insurgents?

In addition to this... Have you seen any other blatant examples of the press slanted in favor of the insurgents like the picture shown above? If so, feel free to post them.

I work in the multimedia industry and can tell when graphic manipulation is at play and furthermore I have done research and study in the field of semiotics for thesis work but I worry for the less discerning members of the public.

That entire hand, never mind the bullets, looks fake btw.

So, essentially, the people posting this story faked the display of the bullets, while at the same time, proved their ignorance in how bullets work?

Yes... good example. Clear cases of the media lying in general meshes with this thread well enough that I'd like to extend this thread to include that as well.

lol i'll openly admit i didn't have a clue those bullets were still in the casings. That picture worked a charm on me. Goes to show the US is really up against it....maybe deservedly so....

I wouldn't say anyone is sympathetic to insurgents, rather its fucking the US back in every which way possible for its questionable behavior of late. There's more than one way to take down goliath.

True, but deceit only works for so long -- as our own government has realized.

The hateful ways of the extremists in Pakistan have slowly started to get the masses there more in favor of moderation and proactive counterterrorism.

That was a real rookie mistake by Reuters that time, anyone with Photoshop can instantly recognise those repeating patterns caused by shoddy use of the 'Clone' tool. It's the same with the picture in the OP, those bullets look like they're fresh out of the ammo store...what a bunch of idiots.

I don't know that it's necessarily sympathy for the insurgents. IMO, bias in reporting is driven by the reporters/staffs' enmity toward Bush and his administration. Anything that makes any decision made by them look bad is a victory in their minds...enough so that a few are willing to either fabricate (a very small minority--Reuters photo) or not research as much as they should (likely majority--unspent bullets), either deliberately or unconsciously.

Here's another case of media spin. the story basically states that there are supposedly high rate of soldier suicides yet no one from media compares that with civilian rate of suicides that is trending actually much higher than the soldier rate. interesting use of spin to say the war is causing increased suicides. maybe the civilians are killing themselves because of the stress of war too? methinks they had mental problems before.
