Could be very true, but, does that always necessarily excuse the killing of a not very innocent 10 year old over the killing of a kitty cat?Poseidon wrote:

In that case, human life is more valuable. It always is. I'm simply saying, people care more about when animals get killed because animals are innocent.
Tell the truth. Are you going to get more upset if you hear that a truckful of dogs was set on fire by some freak or if 3 people were murdered?

Dogs will never do anything useful in their life.

it depends on the circumstance. Were these 3 people the scum of the earth? The dogs. Where these 3 people some little kids? A random family? My friends? Then the three people.Poseidon wrote:

If they aren't innocent, it doesn't make them evil, or bad. We humans are gifted with the ability to be aware of ourselves, and have great thinking capacity and morales. We lose sight of what is right sometimes and it will result in a slip up and if that makes us lose our innocence, i dont really care. I don't think innocence can decide whether a puppy should die over a human, or that it has less of a reason to die. A human has much more to offer, a puppy is a puppy, an animal, it is very limited. I like puppies as much as the next person but humans > puppies.Poseidon wrote:

It's the same logic as to why someone would save an infant before they would save an adult. Infants are innocent.

But those 3 people have families, friends, lives ahead of them, etc.
What would that dog have gained from not being burned alive?

I'm not saying we should value a puppy's life over a human's just because the puppy is innocent. I mean sure, if that person is a mass murderer, I'll save the puppy instead. All I'm saying is the reason that people (including myself) tend to care more when they hear about a puppy or animal being hurt is because animals as a whole are innocent. Humans as a whole have proven that they're not.Canadianloser wrote:

Personally, innocent to me is being, essentially, amoral + not knowing what's right and wrong (because someone's set of morals may be completely different from another's). An animal may hunt for food, and it may also hunt for fun, but if it knows that something it did was wrong, it's no longer quite innocent IMO.
Yes, it's sad video; animal cruelty isn't really my cup of tea, but who am I to say that - I love to eat meat. But really, although what the marine did (or didn't do if the movie is indeed fake) was of bad taste, I'm not going to go into a rage about this. Did I feel sorry for it? Yeah, but when I think of all the other people living in shit conditions, or dying from whatever, it's not such a big deal in my mind (I mean, there are people in Haiti eating cookies for their meals... made of clay and dirt; I think they're more important than some dead puppy however tragic).
I think it's good that the marine got reprimanded though. Partially because (again) his actions were in bad taste, and also because of the negative attention the MC might get from not punishing him.

indeed dogs have done great things and have value, it is just uncomparable to humans in general. sure i'd rather have a puppy who saves a babies life alive than a terrorist, but in general.Kmarion wrote:

I fail to see the point of that, Slinger. I find it especially ironic that you posted a German Shepherd considering they've probably saved countless lives of people in the police force in a little program called, oh, I dunno, K-9?God Save the Queen wrote:

They also didn't know what they were being used for. The people there knew ALL too well what they were doing and got joy off of it.

Does the phrase "They also didn't know what they were being used for, the people there knew ALL too well what they were doing and got joy off of it" ring a bell to you? Perhaps because I JUST said it?
They were TRAINED TO DO THAT. It's just like pitbulls. They're the nicest dogs in the world but everyone thinks they're vicious because some people TRAIN THEM TO FIGHT. And even after, they can be rehabilitated.

What reasoning did the marines have for throwing a dog of a cliff?
