Question: Have you changed your attitude and playing style since you first started playing? If so, why?
When I first started playing BF2 last summer, I used to get pwn'd up and down! I got a little bit better because I joined a clan and I got a chance to play with more knowledgeable players. However, I was a little unsatisfied with my stats. Now before anyone goes off and flames me, I don't use my stats to compare myself to others (if I did, I'd cry, because they kinda suck). Instead, I use them to track whether or not I am improving at this wildly addicting game.
Well, my clan had server problems after SF came out, and we lost a lot of the non-clan players that would regularly show up. Pretty much, our server is empty almost all of the time. So, I started to play a lot without any of my clan mates. I tried to play servers that featured the full rota of maps, but since I don't like to play much in a helo or jet, there are just some maps that I would get coninuously RAPED on! For some reason, Gulf of Oman, Dragon Valley, and Daqing Oilfields were miserable for me!! I decided to focus on more infantry-oriented maps because I figured my proficiency with small-arms would improve more by groundpounding than by running around like a chicken with no head on those bigger maps dominated by air power.
Well, I discovered why people like those infantry maps - especially Strike at Karkand. It is a win-win situation no matter if I am in a good squad, or if I am forced to go it alone or with some newer players. I discovered the joys of reviving fallen comrades, dropping medic kits, dropping ammo packs, etc. I realized that I could have a pretty mediocre K/D round (like 12 kills and 18 deaths) but still be contributing and earning points from revives, supplies, flag capture assists, etc. Also, my k/d in my small arms section has gone up in Assault Rifle from the low .60s to the low .70s. My light machine gun has gone up from low .60s to high .80s, and it was on that trend since prior to the 1.2 patch. Also, I've gotten a lot better about tossing grenades and laying AT mines. I can now lay AT mines without worrying about dopey teammates running over them.
All in all, I am pretty happy, because I feel like (a) I'm getting more points, which is good (since I think the points I get are honest and actually help the team) and (b) My pathetic skills are still pathetic, but much less pathetic than they were a month ago!
So, how have you guys changed your playing styles since you first got the game? The only bad thing I can think of with regards to my new attitude is that (a) I play Karkand too much (although I have discovered Warlord, and I wish I could find more 24/7 Sharqi servers) and (b) I W/L ratio is worse now than it was when I played a lot with my clan.
