Single Slot
Less Heat Produced
Less Power Needed
Higher Peformance
Only 1 6-pin required
Crossfire scales better than SLI
MUCH CHEAPER
CrossFireX means Crossfire with other cards, not just other 4850s

I think the 4850 wins
I agree with you 100%. But it's not much cheaper, maybe 20-30 dollars.
Then its morel like 95%.

I'm settling on $230 GTS 512 SLI (Already have a card). 2 GTS's > OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG ITS SOOOOO LEEEEEEET 4850... Grats on ATi for finally beating the previous generation.
I can guarantee you that two 4850s can beat two 8800GTS' SLI'd. And the 4850 is on par/faster than 9800GTX, and even GX2 at places, with their preliminary drivers.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I know that, but why should I spend $400 on 4850 CF when I can get $230 for GTS SLI?

Blows ATi's "less performance for less money" idea out of the water.

You are correct on all counts except the heat.  The 4850 is one toasty card.

Where can you get a GTS for $115?  Or do you mean it's $230 to couple with a GTS you already have?  In that case then fair enough.

And to the previous gen argument.  It was only supposed to take on the 8800GT (9800GT), the fact it is kicking the 9800GTX's ass is just a bonus.   Nvidia are having to launch that 9800GTX+ to take it on.

Yeh, SLi with my current GTS.

Ati takes this round. The 4850 is basically what the 8800GT was.

This will probably get Nvidia off their asses and release something with real performance increases. Considering the G92 was release without any real competition.

Be a while yet.  R700 is going to be the next step forward.

depending on your mobo and your price range I would get (2) 8800GT 512Mb in SLI mode

you can get two of them for around $300 USD
