Braddock:  in all seriousness, are there any theories as to why?

also, could it be that certain countries have less effective police forces with which to catch these people?  that is, some countries are likely under reporting the numbers because they are not as advanced in police detective work as others.

wow...!  iraq doesn't have any serial killers.  Neither does Syria, saudi arabia, or North Korea

Approximately 9/10 serial killers are white males between the ages of 20 and 35, and cultural clichés present him as figures with a history of child abuse (possibly an over-possessive mother), petty crime, and a sexual motivation that underlies their murders. Far from being the manifestations of insanity, or irrational thought, serial killings are often patterned according to specific characteristics or conventions that grant the crimes a distinctive inherent logic.

Obviously this thread was started to make a point in relation to the thread about black criminals but it is quite interesting how the statistics play out. Lowing would argue that these people should have taken personal responsibility for their own lives, despite what abuse they might have suffered or how overbearing their mothers were! My main question would be why are so many people so quick to right off an entire race on the back of one set of statistics while negating the importance of a significant trend in another set of statistics when it reflects poorly on another race?

Perhaps we're more ambitious killers than blacks, mexicans, and other races/colors.  I believe we may also be leading in child sexual crimes and arson too, sadly.  I think it's safe to say that white criminals do the more heinous stuff...but I could be wrong.

I have a beef with this statistic.  It would be fair (in light of the other thread where KJ posted similar numbers) to say what the % of the US population is black, and the % which is white.  Then it'd likely show that the majority of homicides per race are committed by blacks...which it is based on FBI UCR.  I just saw those stats in a AJ class I had.

That reminds me of another statisics i remember reading...white men and fire!

An examination of arson arrests by race indicated that 76.8 percent of arson arrestees were white, 21.5 percent were black, and 1.7 percent were of other races.

Well in Ireland there have been a number of famous disappearances over the years and many people have theories about it being the work of a serial killer, some people (ex-detective's books etc.) reckon the cops even have an idea who it might be but have never been able to pin it on them...two people from the travelling community supposedly. Lol, wouldn't that be a great statistic, one serial killer...from the travelling community, a 100% record!

I don't recall what the psychological term is, but people have the tendency to view bad behaviour of members of a group they belong to as simply individuals that have committed a crime. Bad behaviour of members of another group tends to reinforce preexisting perceptions of that group.

While one will say that blacks/whites/hispanics/etc. (if they are the other) are more criminal an individual person who is white/black/hispanic/etc. (if they are not the other) is seen as just a criminal.

We all do it to some degree (some are better at recognizing their biases), but I would guess that since this forum is probably mostly white it becomes an issue of black criminality in general and not "why are most serial killers white males" or "why are most arsonists or poisoners white".

As to the directed topic of why most white males (in the US at least) are serial killers, I'd say that 90% of it has to relate to power. Most serial killers tend to be from a powerful group and seek targets of opportunity. Look for the more powerful groups in any country (in terms of demographics) and that is the population from which most (though certainly not all) serial killers will emerge. They will usually be men and will be from the most numerous or most dominant group.

Victims will usually be the most vulnerable members of the society or those will the least power (literally and figuratively); children, prostitutes, the homeless, mentally ill, women, homosexuals, minorities, the elderly, etc.

Because white people are the only race smart enough to commit a crime and get away with it multiple times.  When we go out, we go ALL OUT, none of this petty liquor store bullshit.
