HD4870 right guys?
Yep, good PSU though, I have the 600W version recommended by kyle.   What a silent beast of a PSU.
Ye I meant the GXF card.

Well maybe I'll buy a $60 PSU or something, then get a card in a few years.

I always wanted Antec but they were so expensive. Now, when they are cheap I don't want an it anymore.

It came with the computer, it just says it's an ATX 300 Watt Power Supply.
If I was you, I wouldn't risk it.
But how come other dudes are running theirs just fine at 300, even 250? They said they have had the card for several months, no problems.
edit: well on tigerdirect.ca, they have 400W PSU's for like $30-50. That's not too bad, and they are aftermarket, so they are good quality.
Aftermarket doesn't always necessarily mean good quality.  There are some bad brands of PSU you can buy and you have to know which ones are the good ones.

Indeed, you are of course correct (I would have picked you up on it, otherwise! ) - amperage is much more important than wattage - but wattage is also very important.

My rule of thumb when giving advice on buying a PSU is:

Scorpion0x17 wrote:

Add at least 10% to any calculated wattage requirements, buy a decent named-brand PSU, avoid cheap no-name brands and NEVER buy a re-badge.
(of course, that is just a 'rule of thumb' and mileage can vary, so do your research before buying)

Those "calculated wattages" are just PR ratings, nowdays. I've got a 550w here with 19A on +12V, and a 300w with 36A on +12V
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
