There are so many pros to switching to Opera, but the cons that are holding me back are really big ones ... this is a hard choice to make.

Opera is a new change, and change is always good. It has some fantastic features such as Speed Dial. Additionally, the in-built mail client is fast, reliable and it was so easy to setup. I really, really like it. It's such a change from Firefox and I like it for that - I've used Firefox for two years now, with a brief use of Opera in that time. The theme is really nice, and overall I think it is a fantastic browser.

However, there are a few cons holding me back. And they're big ones. First, no IDM (Internet Download Manager) integrated support in 9.5 - this is a big big issue for me. I'm happy to sacrifice all downloads except for RAR files to Opera's in built download manager (is it any good?), but for RAR files, specifically Rapidshare - I use IDM. I haven't done any speed tests yet, so I'll try that tomorrow. If there is minimal difference and there are the same queue options like in IDM, it is likely that I'll switch. One or two other problems is that I have become so accustomed to Firefox and I have to "learn" this browser. The last main thing is that there seems to be a lot less widgets (Firefox users: plugins) and customization available in Opera than there is in Firefox.

It's a tough call. This whole IDM thing will settle it for me. If there is little difference, you can call me a hypocrite 'cause I won't be "The Adblocker" anymore.

If it came with a decent Adblocker/all the other useful extensions that I <3 I'd be all over it.

Yeah I have set it up with gmail. It works fine (IMAP) and setup was near instant.

Yeah there is a lot to learn, especially the little advanced tweaks and shortcuts since there are so many of them. Mouse gestures especially take a lot of getting used to, since some of them are so similar to others.

One of the little quirks I love though is how you can set up auto-addressing in the address bar, so you can type g then a statement and it'll search Google rather than having to go to the actual Google website etc. You can make it search torrent sites by preceding with a t as well.

Customisations.. yes there are fewer but there are still thousands of them, and mostly they're just not needed because most things are built-in to Opera if you know where to look. The transfers tab is almost as good as a download manager, the only thing it can't do is pause/resume transfers on close (it might be able to but this is something I've not figured out).
It can pause/queue/stop/resume/restart when Opera is running though.

^ Thanks for the reply. I have a bit of time later today so I'm going to try and customize it to my standards - expect n00b questions!

Is there anyway to make Opera download torrent files as only torrent files, and not try to download the data?

kylef, the IDM issue is a huge issue for me as well.

so, I have FF as well, and use it for warez only (ie - if I want warez, instead of opening a new tab, I press ctrl+alt+w, and a completely thinned out FF opens with wBB as the home page)

Yes, Tools -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Downloads

Uncheck "Hide files opened with Opera". Scroll down to torrent files and change to the program of your choice.

Jenspm - there is a way in that you can save all the links to a text file and then let IDM open the text file, but that's such a hassle in comparison to right click - download Love the IRC and mail clients though ... although IRC perform is sloppy. (at least for me)

Is it just me that IDM works for?

I just click download and IDM takes over.

Wow, I was very timid to try this out, but damn if it hasn't won me over. Incredibly fast and it imported everything over from IE7. I'm glad I decided to try this out.
