So over the last few weeks I've collected a few fraps recordings of BF2, today I went to sort a few out and I can't view any files.

I've reinstalled Fraps twice (also uninstalled before), when trying to play with VLC/Winamp I don't get any error messages, no still images, no audio. Just as if the codec wasn't installed.

Now, I had some really nice TVs against jets, tank shells Vs. jets and some dog fights. I'd really not like to have to start again.
The files appear the same size (3.9 GB) and haven't changed location. What's gone wrong, how can I check they're not corrupted?

1) Try to install a different version of FRAPS for future recordings.
2) Try different video viewing software.
3) Try to compress the videos with something like 'RAD Video Tools' (free). It'll make editing them faster anyway.

edit: #3 will convert them into a different format

I dunno. Try renaming the files with .avi at the end of the name.

You could try playing them in Media Player Classic, it is pretty good at playing things other players don't. It really sounds like a codec issue even though you're not getting an error.

Come to think of it, I remember having problems with Fraps files that were 3.9 gigs. I never got them to play and I think I concluded there was nothing in them anyway (which sucked). Maybe you could try to open them with a video editor and see what you can see.

I viewed all of them just a week ago, and nothing has changed since then.

I'll DL media player classic and see how it goes.

It's definitely a codec problem, don't delete your recordings.  I had this problem before and I want to say i fixed it with either the Klite codec tweak tool, or the ffdshow video decoder config tool.  both came with the Klite codec install.
