very true, at the moment "the new middle east" is full of American puppet governments, excluding a few, Iraq is run by puppets. Saddam kept peace in Iraq despite being a dictator and killer, he managed peace between all. The quote i posted does sum up how Iraq came to this civil warBraddock wrote:
Wishful thinking if you ask me. The ethnic melting pot that exists in Iraq needs a strong ruler with an iron fist and he was hung quite a while back. Iraq will split up along ethnic lines after a civil war.rammunition wrote:

Isn't the real problem the ethnic tensions between the various Iraqi groups? Defeating AQ would be great but I don't think it would necessarily rule out a civil war in the long run.
Despite sectarian tendencies, the Iraqis remain united and all the instability can be blamed on the Americans. As soon as the Americans leave the Iraqis will be reunited again and there will be no difference between Sunnis and Shias. "

It's good that the Iraqis are working with us, helping to fix the mess we made.

If Saddam had not invaded Kuwait and did not fuck around with the UN, then none of this would have happened.
If the UN did their job instead of getting rich off oil for food, then none of this would have happened.
and if the US/UK etc. haddn't supported saddam through the 80s we wouldn't have even got that far. If Stormin Norman hadn't allowed Saddam to crush the uprising that would most likely have overthrown him after gulf war 1 we wouldn't be in the situation.usmarine2 wrote:

Nobody forced the neocons to use a flawed strategy in the invade of Iraq. That's why AQ are in Iraq now.

The only thing left from this guy is his skeleton, and you're telling me, AQ is because of Saddam?

The uprising wasn't crushed in Baghdad. The Iraqis were going to do all that hard work themselves, all they wanted was access to confiscated arms and the grounding of Saddams aircraft and attack helicopters. They got neither, Saddam stayed in power and killed a good hundred thousand of them.usmarine2 wrote:

The dems didn't come up with the flawed strategy. Even if is was a full bipartisan plan, it was still a fuck-up that resulted in AQ gaining a huge influence in the country. It's all about taking responsability for your actions.
Yes it is about taking responsibility. We are still there aren't we? We didnt just fuck it and chuck it.....which is what I would have done tbh.
Of course you are, now lets go get that oil!

It wasn't up to Swartzkopf whether or not to engage Saddam to stop the crushing of the Shi'ite uprising in the south. That was a Bush I administration decision.PureFodder wrote:

It would be useful to know one day, maybe in 15 years, how many shattered lives and dead Iraquis had to pay for it.

If the OP is true, then I hope this means we can soon get the fuck out of there.

In actuality I'm all for good news out of Iraq and the War on Terror. Lord knows we need it. I guess I just want Bin Laden's head, and their recruitment dissolved. I'd love to see a strategy that makes them appear as the bad guys to the people within it's region. Although I know that is just near impossible...

I was under the impression Iraq was already under sharia law (of a kind)
