You want people in Africa to start building their own country? Start dropping the insane import tarifs on agriculture in Europe and the US. African countries can't builld high-tech industries yet, they have to start at the bottom, producing commodities. But what is the point, when your biggest customers won't buy from you?

You want oil prices to drop? Drop the ethanol import tariffs. I pay half the price of gasoline because I bought a flex fuel car (runs on gas, ethanol or any mix of the two). The technology is ready, Brazil has been developing it for the last 30 years and now reaps the benefits of it. But for some reason, the US has an insanely high import tarif on ethanol. What for? Whats the point? Does the US government like to depend on the instable Arabian deserts? Does it get a thril everytime gas prices get higher?

You want food prices to drop? Stop paying those insanely high agricultural subsidies. Europe paid in 2007 over 50 billion euros in farm subsidies. Its as if your goverment is using your own tax money to pay farmers so you can pay more for your food!!! What is the point????

The only things these import tarifs do are keep African countries in misery and prices up. They are pointless in a globalized world and are one of the reasons we are in an economic havoc right now.

Africa fucks itself by chopping off women's hands and beheading babies and tossing them in bags, then showing the bag full of heads to the mothers whose hands they chopped off.

No tariff's will fix that.

But, seems you are intent on blaming us.  What has Brazil done for them?  Carnival Mogadishu?
Brazil has been transfering agricultural techonology to Africa for the past decade. Recently, an agricultural technology center was inaugrated in Ghana, one of the neediest countries of all. Brazil also has food programs in Mozambique and Senegal and a huge reconstruction project in Angola,  rebuilding the country after decades of war. But thats the kind of stuff that dosen't make international news, but I was able to find at least one link with an english translation.

That's a couple of things Brazil is doing in Africa. I know because I know many of the people involved in those projects. It it costs a fraction of the subsidies that is paid to deny African and any other food producing countries access to better prices. In numbers, its probably much smaller than the aid US sends to africa, but we prefer the old "teach how to fish" story.

The US does not limit it's assistance to just providing food and financial aid neither.
