Like many modern laptops, the monitor outputs 59hz. BF2 can't run at 59hz. Only 60hz and above.
So, you can plug in an external monitor, or see if you can adjust your laptop's monitor refresh rate.
Can't you force it to run 59Hz? Or not run it fullscreen?
Nope, tried both to no avail. Scoured the Net, no solution but hooking up an external monitor. The game will not run at 59hz at all, EA said it themselves. Running it in windowed mode gives the error message about the video settings.
And nvidia got rid of forcing refresh rates in the Vista Control Panel. So the only solution is external monitor.
However, once in game, you can unplug the external monitor and it will force the game on your laptop monitor. You can play fine, but the resolution will be whacked if the two monitors are different. From there, you can go portable with the laptop. But if you lose the game, be it CTD, Quit or low battery, you'll have to plug in the external monitor.
BF2 can be a real bugger at times. Even if they don't adjust the refresh rate limit in the 1.5 patch, they should definitely have us mobile gamers in Battlefield 3 with 59hz. A laptop's meant to be mobile, and bringing an extra monitor just for the game sounds like a pain.
