Two Friday's ago, I sent back the notebook I had recently bought off of Newegg due to a "defect" (missing OS; Yes, I realised I would've installed an OS myself, but quite frankly I didn't want to spend anymore money to buy an OS that should've came with the notebook itself). So they received my shipment, I got a confirmation email, so the status on the Dashboard went to "Received." Then I got another email saying that it would be sent to the Inspections Department, so I figured (according to their Status Legend) it would switch to "Inspection" but it didn't. Two days ago, I got yet another email from them stating this:
We recently received your RMA and your return was then sent to our Inspections Department for closer examination.

Unit was restored to original manufacturer's default configuration setting, unit has been benchmark burn-in tested for 12 hours and no further errors were detected.

Notebook has been repaired, return to customer.

The notebook will be boxed up and shipped back to you.
So I sent to check the status of the RMA, but it's still stuck on "Received." Even more, whereas each of the emails I received was also posted on my account on that specific RMA detail sheet, this last one wasn't. So I check the sender to see if it was legit, but it's the same sender as the past emails, info@newegg, so I guess it was legit after all.

Being that this is my first purchase and subsequently, first RMA off of Newegg (hurrah for my luck), can anyone explain the inconsistencies? I was planning on waiting to see if the status will finally change or if I got a tracking number for the return, but seeing that I have no idea when that's going to happen, calling in and asking them about this inquiry would be better? Unless this is perfectly normal of course.

Pardon me for being so damn paranoid, it's just that this (over) two week wait (ordered three Friday's ago) for an item that cost me almost half of what I've saved up since 7th grade, and only being able to use it for 5 minutes before realizing it was defective is a bit frustrating.

You ought to call them, it doesn't seem right and even if it is typical of Newegg it's confusing and bad service.

That said, I like Newegg and you shouldn't have too much trouble with it in the end.

Yeah, I know that Newegg is more than capable - I helped a friend order some things, my sister has used it multiple times - and that's why I'm having so much trouble trying to figure this one out. I dunno if this is just bad luck or what, but I'm hoping it gets rectified pretty soon. Guess I'll give them a call tomorrow, hopefully it'll get cleared up.

Don't doubt I'll still buy stuff off of them; can't let one bad experience stop me from using it I suppose.

Aye, bad luck man. Newegg has always treated me well, never had one hitch in my $2500+ that I've spent there.

Keep in mind the tracking numbers and junk don't show up until the shipping courier updates them. Which doesn't happen on Weekends.

Call them up for sure. Newegg is notorious for superb customer service. They'll fix you up.

I know getting defective merchandise can be frustrating, but remember it is not the retailers fault, it is the manufacturer's fault. Don't blame Newegg for anything but the service they provide to you, and it just sounds like the RMA section has a bug that prevented it from posting information, not a huge deal. If you bring it to the attention of someone, they will probably fix it.

Yeah, called in, they didn't explain the inconsistency, but they did tell me what the actual status was on the RMA. Said it should be shipping back today or tomorrow.

Dunno if it was already planned, or if it was because I called in, but shortly after I called the status on the RMA changed to Approved.

@jamiet - Yeah, I know that the faulty merchandise wasn't Newegg's fault, and I wasn't placing the blame on anyone; I was just somewhat confused because of the lack of update on the status of the RMA.

Their update thing is a little slow sometimes.
