True, but the quality of the succeeding games did drop. The last game I played was ruby on my sis's DS. God damn did it suck. Red=Blue=Silver>Everything else.Mutantsteak wrote:

Well from what I remember. Story and gameplay were 'expanded' but not improved. The Pokemon themselves starting being repeats of 2 or more of the previous 2 generations pokemon mixed together. The whole "Rival chooses pokemon type that is your type's worst enemy," "beginning in a backwater town," and "Fire, Plant, Water as starter pokemon" got old.(Maybe we could begin with maybe I dunno Electric, Rock, Water? Or Dragon, Psychic, Steel? to break the whole Pokemon type1> Pokemon type2> Pokemon type3>Pokemon type1 triangle.) The pokemon started having more and more ridiculous names. And really. The game started repeating its self in the most little of ways.(One city with a huge store that has everything, except a special item which one out of the way village only carries) Honestly the last good pokemon game was Silver for me. If they took what Made Silver, Red, and Blue awesome. Squished it all in one game. Removed the cliches and "Colorful trainers" Infact if they just made it more darker and "realistic"(And i use that term loosely) Then we would have real pokemon game worthy of being called great.Mutantsteak wrote:

The whole type fire, water, grass is a trademark and starter pokemon is something that shouldn't be changed. The fact that each starter is weak to another is why they are starters. You're saying its getting old but its the same as the original, then how are they worse. When they remade red and blue into firered and leafgreen it added on to the same story and many battle differences and improvements that im not going to explain. If you play the newest games and know everything about ingame values than it is very difficult going down and playing old games. So much is improved from the generation before. The original games had a huge store that has everything (Celadon) so that argument is irrelevant. The new games make changes while keeping the feel of the originals (fire, water, grass starters) so they games keep their appeal, while adding much more replayability options and much more customization possibilities

Because it is being rehashed and reused, not being innovated upon. Look I like the originals as much as the next guy, but not taking something good and expanding upon it is stupid. Especially when there is so much potential.Mutantsteak wrote:

Have'nt played any pokemon games since ruby. So maybe you're right that there is something different about them. But a 20 year old will look stupid going in to a gamestop and buying pokemon games.Mutantsteak wrote:

Remember that City in silver that had that radio tower and that underground store? Like I said i like the originals as much as the next guy, but taking the same basic plot, recycling it by putting a new coat of paint on is not really making it better.(Evil organization, starter triangle, rival, etc etc)Mutantsteak wrote:

EDIT: It was goldenrod city with the 6 story pokemart like celadon.

You have no idea what has been added if you haven't played a game since ruby. WiFi trading/battling, indepth battle changes and the addition of new pokemon and attacks gives so much more to the game. There is potential and it is being used, you obviously can't have an opinion if you haven't played it (Well the opinion is worthless to me anyway)David.P wrote:
