go to the Naval Academy, go into the Navy as a pilot. After some years building hours, and continuing your education, apply for the test pilot program. Take it from there. You stand a much better chance of getting selected from a military tree than a civilian tree.
Best advice you're going to hear I think. Other than perhaps join the airforce.
Well ( and I say this as ex-AF) the Navy produces a better pilot with its carrier ops, so the common belief is.
That's the common belief...in the Navy.

Depends on what you want to do. There are plenty of non-fliers who became astronauts, but without knowing what the normal crew composition will be when you get to that point (20-odd years from now), the safest way to ensure you are competitive is to become a military pilot (USAF, USN, or USMC...USA doesn't have high-performance aircraft). Then become a test pilot in any of the three branches.

Take a look at this guy's bio to get an idea of what's required.

What do you mean? CV=Vice Commander or Non-nuclear aircraft carrier. I'm willing to bet you didn't mean either of those.

Am I cool if I knew that?

As for the OP, don't emphasize race if you are Asian. Being Asian actually hurts your chances for selective colleges, because there are so many more qualified candidates.

Is CV not a term used in the US at all? I mean, I knew you guys preferred to use resume, but I'd have thought you'd have at least heard of the term.

I've heard of the term "curriculum vitae" but not the abbreviation.

Could also be that a bio isn't equivalent to a resume here.

Meh, technically speaking it's not a CV/resume, but it contains most of the information you'd put on one.

Only to be a pilot though.

None of the other roles require any piloting experience. I reckon people have been placing too much emphasis on the piloting side and less on the getting a really good masters degree and a doctorate in useful related fields.

Seems the academic route would be best to me, especially since you have a long way to go down it anyway, but you're going to have to really excel in your field - also if being an astronaut doesn't pan out, you still have a fair chance of working at NASA that way.

Thanks Cowami for the heads up btw

And by the looks of it now, I may go through the academic career (Mission Specialist)

But thanks for everything guys, really helpful. And if I do make it, you guys can say "Heh I know an astronaut and you don't" to all your buddies !

You will need a science or engineering qualification. Anybody with 20/20 vision and a bit of intelligence can make pilot.
