Partially true. 1. Yes, they are difficult to get into. The average student had a 3.85GPA (usually honors, AP, or IB classes). About 90% lettered in a HS sport (doesn't necessarily mean they were great).Poseidon wrote:

apply to the USAFA Poseidon. What's the worst that could happen... ya don't get accepted?
I've seen a show on the military academies. You need to be like the quarterback of your football team, have a 4.0 average, have a dad with a LOT of money and have connections to get in. Obviously I'm exaggerating, but it's nearly impossible for someone like me to get in. I had thought about applying, but in all honesty it'd be a waste of my time and money considering it's 50 bucks for an application.
NO, you do NOT need to be rich or have connections. Most cadets/midshipmen are not rich and do not have connections. AFAIK, there is no fee for the application...at least not when I applied in '06

There are usually just over 1,000pilot slots AF wide, per year. About 500 go to USAFA, 500 to AFROTC, then the rest go to OTS, etc.
If you want to be an Air Force pilot, you MUST have a degree before pilot training. Only officers can be pilots, and only college grads can be officers. Also, realize that there is a 10yr commitment after you pin on your wings.
