Hi guys,

I am aware of the official Vista QA thread but I made this thread for 2 reasons:

1. Not many visit the thread anymore;
2. It's a rather annoying problem that some non-vista users may even be able to fix!

So, here's my problem:

On XP, my microphone worked absolutely fine. When I upgraded to Vista, some settings have obviously changed and I don't know what - but now, my microphone/headset does NOT. I can playback sound absolutely fine, it's just speaking into a microphone nobody hears me.

My kit:

Vista Ultimate (32-Bit)
Labtec Headset (Definitely Working)
Creative Audigy 2 ZS (+Vista Beta Drivers)

In Teamspeak, the main place where I would use it. I have these options about my input device:

It is plugged in etc, and it definitely does work. Any help would be much appreciated. I have a feeling it has something to do with 'what u hear' - I had some problem on XP with it as well?

TIA
Kyle.

PS. Note that in the first image, the reason why there is two green bars at the speaker thing is because I am watching a video through my computer so it is detecting the sound (and I hear it fine).

Have you gone into the levels tab on the last screen and set it up? I had to do this with vista first.

Does it work if you select configure and set up microphone?

*Bump*

I'm having the same problem. It works, but it's just really quiet. That's with mic boost and everything up to as high as they'll go. Any ideas? I've read a bunch on Google about people having the same problem, but no one actually has a fix for it.

Was confused when I saw the thread creator, lol

Did the problem just occur or what?

Nah, I just got a mic today so I can phone home cheaply when I'm at uni.

I'm not sure about the exact process in Vista(and my computer just crashed), but in XP, there's a wizard under Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Voice > Configure Voice Wizard

That'll run you through a series of questions where you choose your Mic and speaker defaults, and you set volumes and the like.

Move the mic closer to your mouth, eliminate background noise, and speak louder.  If all the settings (physical mic volume, control panel mic volume, and VOIP program mic volume) are turned all the way up, there isn't much more you can do.

Get a new mic, if you paid less than $15 for it, expect crap.
