hi guys...need help!..I've just upgarded my CPU from 2.8Ghz to 3.4GHz P4, but after running 3Dmark05 performance is 50% lower than before!!! Can some one help me fix that? Thx.
Did you have an AMD for your 2.8?
no it was P4 before as well...i just switched the CPU hoping for increase od speed...but oops...50% lower than before??? What did i do wrong?
system specs of before/after could be helpful
BEFORE:
Pentium 4 2.8Ghz 800Mhz bus ...512Kb L2 (i think)
1Gb RAM
256Mb Ati X800XL
X-Fi sound
10k rpm WD raptor
dx9.0c
NOW:
Pentium 4 3.4Ghz 800Mhz bus ...1Mb L2 cash
1Gb RAM
256Mb Ati X800XL
X-Fi sound
10k rpm WD raptor
dx9.0c

thats very interesting... but do your games/apps run any faster? I've never really been a fan of benchmarks.
have not tryed it yet...but that test freaked me out...and pissed me off a little
It says external clock 200Mhz...doesn't it supose to be 800Mhz?

I'd try a game before you get freaked out from one of those tests, they're really inaccurate.
Weird, that doesn't make much sense. Sorry I can't help.
Does your motherboard support a chipset that high? That might be your problem. Or maybe it's a different build of chip. AMD has several different builds of the chip that I am using, each one is a little different.
yes it does, i have checked before i bought it..i have run intel diagnostics tools and everything came out good.
I really have no idea what is going on. 3dMark05 was beore 4750 now 2550 ...that is really not what i wanted!
After replacing the power supply for a 400W one...3dMark05 jumepd to 3682 still more than 1000 less than before I replaced it...could it be a motherboard problem? Abit IS7-E

ok, so after a while searching through the net, I've found out that my old mobo doesn't support my new 3.4GHz CPU and I had to get a new one...I choose ABIT IC7-G MAXII ...hopefully that will be it!
I think you may have waisted your money im pretty sure if you flash your bios with http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/bio … p;model=80 it will work.
A little Confusing - http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/intel-p4.php ?

i did flashed the bios, got new, updated one...still same results...so dunno, i'll on riday when i get the new mobo ...let you know if it works or not
Well, I dunno... I'm a AMD guy myself.
Its Saturday now did it work?CZE_M4CH0 wrote:

Finally the new motherboard is installed and after all the tests it looks like it's finaly getting to the numbers i was looking for...5.150 in 3dMark05, sill not what i expected, but better than 2,XXX than before.
Now I have another problem, everytime I'm trying to overclock the CPU, I'm unable to boot from my SATA, bios reads only IDE-1 DVD-RW witch is set as master ...if I use standard settings everything is allright!? What is wrong with that? Anyone? Pls!

Overclocking leads to instability. I think the southbridge controlls IDE/SATA, but if not, then you've pushed the northbridge too fast by increasing the FSB.
Faster clock cycles != more performance. Look up flops.

thx for the tip, i'll try to look at it...
Yeah, me too! thanks for the info!
