There will always be pirates. Game producers should be prepared for that and should expect it.
In other words, EA should suck it up.

But most people pirate games because they don't want to spend money on them, so going after pirates is almost the same as going after people who aren't buying the damn thing to begin with.Stingray24 wrote:

Yet for some reason Activision/Infinity ward are receiving massive profits with a good single player and addictive multiplayer with COD4. The glitches and errors are minimal and the patches actually fix problems like it is suppose to. There is basic protection software (cd in cd drive). COD4 online is the 2nd most played game on xfire behind WOW.ELITE-UK wrote:
Its kind of a loop isnt it, EA put the DRM into the game to stop pirates fro downloading the game, but the pirates download the game more anyways...but if they just stop downloading the games in the first place then they wont put this kind of stuff into the software!!
Buy your games you cheap b*****ds!!
Game makers are turning away from the PC scene and yet you expect them to churn out great games and expect to get them for free! Unbelievable!!
I was saying that pirating a game solely because of DRM isn't going to do anything to decrease the DRM.DoctaStrangelove wrote:

I'm not going to spend any money on this soda, but I still want it. I'm sure insurance will cover it. No one is getting hurt.I mean, if am not going to spend money on Spore, but I still want to play it, then am I hurting anyone? I wasn't going to spend any money on the game anyway?
A touching story. You could have bought them, too.On the other hand I plan on buying Far Cry 2 and Red Alert 3, which is ironic in a way because I was introduced to those series when I pirated the first Far Cry and Command and Conquer Generals. So in that respect piracy served as free advertising, I wouldn't have paid money for the sequels if I hadn't gotten the earlier game for free.
But DRM doesn't reduce piracy, it's redundant and costly software that the removal of which would save everyone.nukchebi0 wrote:

Bad analogy is bad.I'm not going to spend any money on this soda, but I still want it. I'm sure insurance will cover it. No one is getting hurt.
But I wasn't going too buy them in the first place so I didn't exactly cost anyone anything by pirating them. In fact the opposite, as my piracy was the best advertising possible, had I not pirated those games I would not have bought the other games in the series. The makers of the games made money from me pirating them that they wouldn't have made if I hadn't pirated.A touching story. You could have bought them, too.
You clearly, clearly, don't understand that the effectiveness has nothing to do with how EA perceives it.But DRM doesn't reduce piracy, it's redundant and costly software that the removal of which would save everyone.
Without elaborating on why it is bad, it looks like you are incapable of reply and thus got owned.Bad analogy is bad.
So did you buy them after you pirated them? But I wasn't going too buy them in the first place so I didn't exactly cost anyone anything by pirating them. So basically piracy isn't nearly as bad as the companies who make stuff make it out to be and you're a douche-bag.
Can you tell us how EA does perceive it?nukchebi0 wrote:

It's bad because it doesn't fit what we're talking about at all. You're getting another company to buy something for you by lying.nukchebi0 wrote:

What difference does it make? They made a sale that they wouldn't have made without him pirating the first ones.nukchebi0 wrote:

I totally agree with Zimmer on this one. I will buy a game play it for a bit unisntall it and come back to it in a few months. Hell, I have installed/uninstalled Diablo II about 5 times and BF2 like 6 or 7 times.Zimmer wrote:
I disagree. Customer always wins. They do it first, we do it after. Piracy will always be here, but if they put more trust in us, then they will get more out of us. I have bought every game I truly love ( with the exception of PES2008 on the PC... wouldn't call it true love though ) and will keep on doing so if they give me a game, not a fucking pathetic DRM license bullshit. I would have already had to pay for a new spore because I have reformatted my HDD 6 times. Pathetic.ELITE-UK wrote:

EA brought it upon themselves. I was going to buy the game too, I was very excited even. However, they put this install limit bullshit and DRM poo on the disk and I'm just not going to deal with it at all.
I'm not going to pirate the game and I'm not going to buy it. They don't deserve a second of my time. This also put the final nail in the EA coffin for me. I will never purchase another game developed or published by them.

Not necessarily. There's plenty of other developers and publishers out there. Valve, SCEA, Insomniac, Infinity Ward, Ubisoft, Take 2/rockstar... the list is pretty substantial. I think the last game I bought from them was BF2142 a couple of years ago, and since then I've probably purchased close to 20 games.Cheez wrote:

I too want to boycott EA, but if they ever release BF3 I am bound to buy itheggs wrote:

That's kinda what DRM does, but it's not hard to bypass/disable it.GateKeeper{NL} wrote:
They need to implement a software scan for games,

its possible but "they" think sales go down on this.
