I haven't been up to date with computer components in the last 6 months ever since I sold my gaming computer to pay a debt I had.

Since then I've been stuck on a Asus Terminator C3 which is crap. ( 800mhz, 512mb, integrated graphics/sound)
I'm sick and tired of this computer. time for a new build. And I need your help to build me one, and since I haven't really been up to date. I'm behind in everything.

So my conditions are;
- $2000CDN with taxes (a loan I'm getting for a computer)
- Can buy from Canadian site, like newegg.ca
- Not the most expensive components (ie. paying 200$ more for a video card for only a small performance gain. not worth it, I could use the money elsewhere)
- Lots of HDD space.
- Need new monitor (something like 22" would be good, not too big and doesn't have to be fancy)
- Gaming headset (no speakers since I'm moving with a buddy and will have both comps in same room)
- Not a flashy case (I already had a plexi-glass case with lights and shit, also had a Antec 900 )
- Need a couple of games, so keep that in mind when doing the budget!

That's all I can think of right now.

You might as well get a monitor from a local store that way you don't have to pay for shipping for such a heavy object.

Total is $1420 before shipping plus $55 in MIR. Don't know much about headsets, but I'm sure others here do. Unless you plan on doing heavy overclocking, the heatsink that comes with the E8400 is more than enough.

wow, So ATI is getting better now? I remember that they were struggling not too long ago.
I will probably buy the monitor in a local store somewhere so I don't have to pay shipping. thanks ebug

I'll look into what you guys suggested me and I'll make a new list.

edit: no overclocking for the moment, or very little.

Shipping for that is roughly $110 but if you get rid of the monitor it should bring it down quite a bit.

Next purchase is another 4GB DDR-1066 for a total of 8GB and a quieter PSU for my main rig tomorrow morning

sweet. those GX2s will be awsome for your folding farm.

Can we just sticky this with the title of "upgrade time?" After a few more months when DDR3 and i7 come down in price and we get something even better from the big two gpu designers we can update it???

There have been several attempts on this, but no-one have been arsed to keep'em updated.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
