Basically the computer i posted is alot better. it comes down to  whether u want a decent computer now that will last a while and play all games in the next 3yrs or just spend minimal money at the moment so u can play bf2.

from the sound of it u probably just want to go with the the cheaper option

Okay, DELL is an issue but I was once in the same boat as you. It wasn't great, in fact it was pretty medium at best, but if you are just looking to do a quick upgrade then buy the following (but I recommend a new PC, there are some good choices mentioned above)

- buy an extra 1GB memory (£10)
- buy an PCI nVidia FX5200 (£30)

You'll need a specific type of memory so if you are going down this route don't just go buying anything, post in here first.

Why would he need a new rig. He already has a decent one. Just needs to get a PCI-E video card, his computer has a free PCI-E slot.

And you could still probably upgrade your PSU, get a decent BF2 playable graphics card and 1GB of extra RAM for less than $100

LBJ: I mainly want to be able to play games that I want to atm (BF2) but will be able to be upgraded to play games that I could want down the road. I don't want to blow off a ton of money on a computer that could play future games and then find out that I don't want any games. XD Also, in 3 years I'm gonna be going to collage and will probably not be able to play as much so I'm mainly concerned with the now. Thanks!

The computer I posted is half-decent as is, and will play BF2 and most games somewhat-decent, as well as letting you stick any new parts you wish. If it gets too slow, you just buy a new graphics card and CPU (well, perhaps also PSU), and you've got a new computer.

That Dell you have is more or less un-upgradable. Sure, you can get something like an FX5200 for PCI, but it will run BF2 at a maximum of 25FPS on all low and 800x600, which isn't worth spending even a nickle on.

As for PCI-E x1, there are virtually no graphics cards at all for it, and those that there are, are no better than the integrated that is in it right now.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

That's the one, yep. I made the mistake of purchasing the 5500 (5200 is better!) As for the memory, I'm pretty sure it'll have to be DDR2 but DELLs can be so fussy with memory. Download a program called CPU-z (it's free), look at the 'memory' tab and tell us what it says there.

Why exactly would the FX5200 be faster than the 5500, which is nothing but a 5200 with 20MHz higher core clock?

No matter, there is absolutely no point in getting either a 5200 or 5500 for that matter. Especially not for $130!

The computer u posted is quite upgradeable except if he just wanted to upgrade the video card. he would need a new video card (obviously lol) a new power supply and possibly a new case depending on how big the card is... and he would have to get a new CPU because that one would bottle
neck a new card. so really if he wanted to upgrade his pretty much looking at a entirely new computer anyway.

but if that computer suits his needs then who cares lol.

The PC freezer posted will be easy to upgrade. For now the GPU will be the weak point. If you were to decide to go crazy on a 1000$ GPU, the CPU would bottleneck and you'd need something faster. If you only go for something mid end the CPU will be OK. Plus you can get a nice OC out of it

As for your current PC. It's too shit to be worth spending any money on it. You could get some PCI video card, but it would be slow, painful and a huge waste of money

Alright, it sounds like that Freezer's PC should be good enough for me for awhile. I think. And I could always come back here and get help if I decide to upgrade =P. (3Years down the line XD)

Sounds like that the PSU is the source of the argument or something, so how much would a 600W+ PSU cost that would go with it? It seems like making this upgrade now would save me alot more trouble down the line. I think... XD
