Wondering if anyone could enlighten me as to what the problem is here and/or if it is fixable.
It's a friend's laptop. It boots fine and loads everything normally. The only thing that doesn't work before it BSOD's is the LAN connection. If I leave the laptop idle it will BSOD after a given period of time - that seems to vary quite randomly. I can make it BSOD by trying to "diagnose" what's wrong with the LAN connection.
The error code given on the blue screen is 8E, which is as follows:
Starting the laptop in Safe Mode works. It does not blue screen at any point. If I start it on Safe Mode with Networking, it blue screens once I've logged in and windows is loaded (much like when booting Windows normally).
I've tried updating the BIOS - hasn't worked.
Downloaded new drivers for the NIC - hasn't achieved anything.
Running Vista 32bit.
Any ideas as to what that error message means? And thus, any solutions?

Will check back in the morning for any replies - seeing as he's gone home with his laptop now and there's nothing I can do until I see him tomorrow.
