the X2s get their asses handed to them in min fps and average fps is a minor loose. I just read about 32 pages long review with many drivers including the latest from both camps. :>
catalyst 9.1 for ATi you mean? i thought it was supposed to improve performance for the X2s drastically.
yes and 9.x is actually 8.12 hotfix (who the hell got idea its 9.x first?). it improves the average fps quite nicely but the X2s still are behind in minimum fps. and minor loose in average fps (at least in i7 setups). ATi knows this aswell and thats why dropped the prices dramatically. (otherwise they would be still on same level, no?)
Never underestimate the appeal of a ''new'' card
. The 4870x2 has been out, what? Five months or something? By now the manufacturing process will have been refined, plenty of stock of, say GDDR5 which was an issue back in june for the 4870, delaying it's release, etc etc. All of these contribute to allowing ATi to take a hit in profit, plus the fact the 4800 series has already paid for it's self and then some. 200 series is about breaking even considering the whole GTX 260/280 debacle.
Especially in the current climate, people who look at these benchmarks seem to only look at average frames. If the X2 is shown to be keeping up on average, especially at the higher resolutions, and, is cheaper, it's going to steal a bit of buissiness from the 295.
