I'm relatively set on the GTX295. Whether it's the current version or the March/April revision doesn't really bother me anymore, because PCI-e isn't as close to being dead as AGP was when I build my last rig, so I'll actually be able to upgrade this time around. That aside, I'd like to be able to offload physics function onto another video card.

Looking at two cards:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814130440 (1GB 9800GT, $150)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814130380 [512MB 9800GT, $115 (currently $80 with CoD5, unadvertised)]

I'm leaning towards the 512MB because it's half the price and comes bundled with a couple more goodies, but the one thing that a quick googling hasn't garnished for me was how much RAM these physics processes take. The reason I'm leaning towards the 9800's in the first place is that they are low profile cards and won't get in my way too much.

Another thing I have to make sure of is that there won't be any technical difficulty blending a 295 with a 9800. I've seen pictures, but I'd still like to make sure.

Cant see why you would need a 1GB card just for physx. so i guess the 512MB would suffice

I think a 8600GT will do the job.  Just find a used one for CHEAP.

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Pfft, I was using a 7300GS as my main for a while.

Then the fan wore out cuz i broke a blade or 2 on the first day I got it.

Then the card died completely.

Now I'm on onboard.

Being poor sucks.

Don't fret Top, I'm using a 6800 Ultra 256MB AGP as my main card now (though Donkey can feel free to mumble about integrateds). I think I'll stick with the 512MB version.

Max: I'm going 9800GT over 8600GT because the price difference really isn't that great and I've already spent too much time combing through parts to bother with eBay and craigslist.

I used to have an AGP 7600GT

Now I'm rockin' on an Asus HD4670 with a cooler bigger than your head.

Yeah...probably snatch it anyway, just so I can toss the game at a buddy, but still.

If newegg succeeds in shipping this to me without the horrid delays I've experienced Q4/08, I'll get the rest of the components from them. Except the motherboard...it's always easier to take those back to the shops for RMA if it duds.

Edit: Snatched.

Well, no more egg for me. I tried three cards. I guess I'll have to commit the atrocity of paying an extra ten bucks at Amazon.

Edit: Oh, nice:

Thank you for visiting Newegg.com. We are truly sorry for any inconvenience but we are currently experiencing problems on our server. Please try again at a later time.
If you have any questions, please visit our FAQs or simply contact us and our helpful staff will alleviate any concerns you may have.
If I cancel this order and they still send me a 9800GT like they did with a Vaio, I'm going to be pissed.

Edit 2: Twenty minutes later, I get an e-mail saying that it authorized. What a trip...

I bought my entire build from NewEgg, I don't have a single problem.

Well, I might see about picking up a GTX 260 if the price drops to something reasonable.
