I'm a ManU fan and would pick both Ronaldo and Messi for my team

They both have qualities the other one lacks and would be a killer combo on any team ...

My opinion is you ask all the coaches in the UK who would you prefer in your team, Ronaldo or Messi they will pick Ronaldo.  Man City get a load of wedge who do they get linked with, Ronaldo not Messi.  Its seems its mostly our opinion, the media's opinion and now FIFA's opinion that not only is Ronaldo the very best, he's also better than Messi.  That don't make Messi shit, he just dosen't measure up to the standard Ronaldo has set.
Put that in the past and I may agree with you. I never said he didn't fully deserve this years prize, but he wont win it again.

If you compare both players RIGHT THIS MOMENT, Messi is unquestionably better.

Well Im going to be a cunt and question it:

Im comparing both players, right now, why is Messi better?  (Bare in mind I havent seen a min of Spanish football this season and very little Prem action).

Would I be right in thinking then Messi will win next year?  Why can't Ronaldo raise the bar even higher again and win it in the future?

I would for my Cardiff team but its not the point.  Your only allowed one of the two.  Im only using these two as a marker as they both in question.  You could swap Messi for anyone else and Ronaldo will still get picked first. (I reckon)

Well I am going to be a cunt and I am going to say you have no stance in this argument.

A. You haven't seen Ronaldos performance this season.
B. You haven't seen Messis.
C. Go watch some of the highlights of both players this season.

Stupid thing to say, really. If you haven't seen them, why comment?

Thank god I used question marks to show I was asking for your opinion as I know you watch a lot of Spanish action.  Over the last 12 months I can comment but when you highlighted RIGHT THIS MOMENT I thought I'm out of my depth now, leave it to Zimmer to answer.

I comment as Im a true football fan and enjoy a good debate and credit where its due the majority of it is being carried out in an adult way.  Im a fan of Ronaldo's but not so much Messi because I haven't seen much of him play, but have watched Ronaldo go from villan to hero.

Still await why you think Messi is better?

Ok, you want pure stats?

Ronaldo has played 22 games this season ( unsure what this includes, but nearly everything ) and has scored 10 goals.

Messi, on the other hand, has made 17 APPEARANCES and scored 20 goals. That's double the amount he has scored in less games. More than a 1 goal per game ratio. Better much?

Messi has also made more than double the assists in a game compared to Ronaldo. When most needed, Ronaldo has NOT performed and won the game for Manchester United. Whereas Messi has ( examples? Hat trick against Atletico, 84th minute winner against Osasuna, Superb goal against Madrid, scored the winner against Shaktar to make sure they go through whilst coming on as a sub, scored the important equaliser against Basel and scored the important goals against Sevilla ).

Ronaldo has been tagging alongside a very strong team this year. He has done nothing to win a game or change the game outright, Messi has. His ability to suddenly turn on the pressure and control a game is incredible, Ronaldo has been quiet this year, shadowed by a powerful duo upfront and a strong midfield.

You want the stats?

Form is temporary, class is permanent. Ronaldo has been consistently better than messi for the last few seasons.

Admittedly, messi has been great this season, and ronaldo has been slightly off form (due to quite a long injury lay-off). But Ronaldo is a fantastic footballer, and absolute cunt, but a brilliant footballer.

And tbh, it shows just how arrogant you are that you are still convinced you're right when he was voted the worlds best player by the captains and coaches of international teams and also picked up the European Player of the Year crown in December and the FifPro World Footballer of the Year honour in October. TBH, that shows who is the better footballer. Yes messi is brilliant, but he isnt as good, thats why he came second, not first

Nope not really (if you were asking me)

You said Messi is 'Unquestionably better' why.

I haven't checked your stats but see you as bf2s 'Spanish Football Expert' fair do's you know your stuff and your specialised subject would be 'Barcalona' (of course I stand to be corrected).  Seeing as I know next to nothing about either of them right now I agree with you I can't comment as to who today is better.  Thats why i asked you why and didnt argue and say 'No he isn't'.

All I want is your educated opinion as to right now, why Messi is better.  Thats what I questioned the unquestionable.

Bennis, if you had read me other posts, you would have seen that I said that Ronaldo deserved it this year.

Arrogance? Where? I was merely stating an opinion for this seasons performance. Ronaldo HAS been better than Messi for the past few years, and I will never deny that, nor have I ever denied it.

I never mentioned last season, or the season before. I was merely commenting on this season. I made that quite clear.

Messi has been injured this season as well, so there is no excuse for Ronaldos form.

Zimmer - Im the same here as I am when Americans come in and say 'American Football is better than Soccer - Fact' or 'Football is shit' or 'Girls Aloud are shit'.  Im not saying who is right or wrong, just asking why?

I don't have an argument until you give me your evidence as to why.  In this case Im not after evidence just your opinion which is something I respect and thus; good enough for me.

I gave you evidence. The rest of the evidence can be watched online.
101greatgoals.com is a start.

I don't want to go listing the abilities Messi has that Ronaldo doesn't. They aren't the same type of player.

Ok well I will have to keep an open mind as to why Messi is better than Ronaldo by such a margin it shouldnt be questioned.

I hope young Lionel goes to to win the league, European Champs League, World Club thing in Japan/China whatever, Euro Player of the year and World player of the year and thus keep up the great form he is currently enjoying.  Id love him to jump ship and come and grace these shores week in week out, until then I will remain curious and envious of this great player with so much talent.  Hopefully a English side will make a bid for him as I want to see the very best on Match of the Day (when I get to watch it)

I'm a Man Utd fan so call me bias but Ronaldo deserved that award much more than any other player nominated, you can't deny the pivotal influence he had on Man Utd winning both the league title and the European title last season.

Anyone who says otherwise is a Chelsea fan or a total fucking idiot who know's nothing about football.

Thoroughly deserved Ronaldo. Since August he may not be what he was in 2007/08, but he is remaining consistant and that's the key to winning a major title such as FIFA World Player of the Year.

I thought Ronnies assist vs Wigan last night was top drawer, a precision ball across the ground beating about 5 defenders for Rooney to slot home, looks an easy pass but wasn't.

Yeah you are right actually, i just get a bit of the red mist when people just don't see the bigger picture. And also you get the feeling some people say Ronaldo is a shit player/diver/cheat just cause they want to appear like they know something about what it takes to be potentially the best football player the world has seen so far.
