Hello BF2 world.

i ain't posted on here for what seems like forever. Anyway, I've played 2142 and COD4 since in leagues etc.

But me and my friend were talking the other day whilst having a drink in a boozer and we both toasted BF2. We had a huge conversation about what that game was, how good it was, and amongst all the crap that surrounds it (moaning etc.), we enjoyed publics on BF2 like no other. I wasn't at all a big BF2 clan player, I played clanned, but public was amazing. So much fun and we both agreed that it was possibly the only game we prefer public than clanned and thought surely others may feel the same.

Anyway, the reason I'm posting, is because of one of the things we chatted about and thought I'd see the BF2 world views.

So, looking back, at all the critism and slagging of EA / Dice for rushing stuff, fucking stuff up etc. and comparing it to games since, or even before. What would ur overall look on the game be.

Personally, I think as soon as they stopped noob tubers, jumping and shooting at same time, and the option to take vehicles off (only drawback is no - vehicles on search, just inf! - lol), the game was as close to perfect as a game could be without being a total prat and saying 'this needs tweaking etc'.

My hat goes off to DICE, and EA for having a team in it's midst that can produce such a game.

Nothing has come close for modern warfare, nothing has rivalled what it can do (full on war if u have 32 v 32 etc), and nothing has left me with so much memories and fun I had on that game.

Best maps: Karkand, Mashtuur, Dragon Valley, Sharqui
Worst maps: Kubra Dam, Zatar Wetlands, Wake Island (Based on I was never a big plane flyer!)

*Special mention: Most underused map: Operation Clean Sweep (noone ever played it as much, the svrs I always found had no more than 15 peeps sometimes)

Most remembered common situation: Stalemate on Karkand where US are the "good side of the river / railway" and the Insurgants are the "shit side" of the river. - Usually always happened, and when u made it across it on a good server, u needed to keep ur head or nick a jeep and DRIVE! like u stole it! to capture a flag or go round running people over with a gunner killing too!

A loving appreciation also goes out to the Special Forces addon. BIG LOVE!!! (Warlord FTW!)

A mention of "u could of gave it us free!!!" goes to the "Bolster packs!"

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Kubra Dam is far from one of the worst maps...

bad netcode, generally terrible community which in turn led to overnerfing, mediocre maps at best.

8/10, but could have been so so so much better.

Now only if activision could be tempted tp try and create a 64p FPS

Hey,

To all those responding to the maps. It's no open for debate, it's my opinion and the worst are my worst. Rather than debate, list your faves and worst.

Bad netcode(no idea what it means but assuming it has to do with hit reg), unbalanced maps, horrible anti-cheat program(which lead to leagues/public communities making their own), only game where my teammates are more of a threat then the enemy... will post more later.

With that they ruined a completely awesome game. And with those so called 'awsm' nerfs they pretty much ruined the smoothness of the game as well.

In addition there were the whining smurfs, general tossers and nazi admins.

Nonetheless out of the 3 years I played the game I did enjoy playing it most of the time, met alot of great players and had good times on both public and private servers.

As for the maps;

Strike at karkand was actually a VERY good map, it only because after IO was introduced, it turned into complete and utter shit.
Wake Island was also VERY good, untill the J-10 was made king of the air and just like Karkand it turned into shite.
Dragon Valley remains to be an awesome map, mainly because I was a chopper whore.
Road to jalalabad was extremely fun on infantry only.

Then there are the special forces which were just all pure awsmness

In the end all the nerfing, failed patches, shit, fail hit registration and IO domination 90% of the servers, whining smurfs and nazi admins + less competitive games being played made me quit the game. Shame though.

Dice better make a BF3 with exactly the same stuff but with a newer engine and better hit registration.

This.

Although I think the maps, for what they were at the time, and to an extent now still good. Cod4\5 hasn't exactly offered huge maps, let alone vehicles the same way bf2 was able.

Battlefield 2, to me, is a game I will always come crawling back to so long as servers exist, and even then I'll still go on to shoot bots.
I've yet to see or play a game that rivals it in both scale and variety, and delivers properly. Yes, netcode is the pits at times, there are glitches, both hilarious and annoying (ie: invisible walls while flying) and hackers sometime make appearances, but those do little to tarnish the sheer awesomeness of this game.
I've bought many games since, but few have actually made me return continuously to play it once again. The stats system makes me want to improve myself, and allows me to actually see that progress.
All of the vehicles and weapons available in game gives us so many chances to overcome the obstacles in our way. Plane hitting your team hard? You have AT rockets, AA sites, .50 cal turrets, TV missiles, tanks and even more weapons you can use to kill the thing.

Battlefield has flaws. It has whiners and hackers. But, time and again, Battlefield delivers.

i'm a BF2 addict, and I have no regrets

The introduction of I/O mode somehow diluted the awesomeness of the game.
Most maps simply are not designed for I/O and the game has been built around the usage of vehicles and the huge sizes of the maps.
They should at least have given us "no aircraft" and "transport only" modes in addition to I/O, so people could select the proper mode in respect to each map size and type.

Leaving aside the hackers and asshole admins, what makes me sad the most though is the potential the game could have had.
Looking at this guide of left out/missing content makes me want to weep: http://trackr.net/book/battlefield-2/gu … ng-content
Heck, you could make another booster pack with all that content easily.

Look past the hitreg which can be optimized for your pissing moaners, The hacks and 1.41 then it IS a game.

I love it and I will not quit playing it, I have went through great lengths to play this damn game! And I have devoted over 3,000 hours into it!

Bottom line, Is I can not get enough of Battlefield and is by far my most played game ever and I have more memories about it than anything else! ( that is sad I know Computer wise!! )

Yup BF2, the game that got me into online gaming. The only game i ever broke a keyboard over, the only game i said i'd never play again, the game i still play. Unique in the way that when you think you've played your best round, you then play an even better round.

I love the game, it's just absolutley fucking awesome.

No, Kubra Dam is the best map in BF2, followed by Mashtuur-bation, Daqing, Songuah.

And yes, IO took away the 'Real BF2'.

Solution: Bring out 1.5, delete Karkand and Wake, bring back jumping and shooting ect from 1.2.

Plenty of people summed it up nicely. Great game, at any time any scenario can be enjoyable. One day, you feel like going AA, another you just like cruising around in an ATV resupplying the Anti-Tank teams in Ghost Town.

Playing alone or with mates is great fun. It turns from first person shooter to hilarious drunken madness! This is the first online shooter I've played, and I'm still hooked. Battlefield Pirates, AIX 2, Project Reality, all other mods to keep the game play fresh.

So I ask you, "who has the grog?"

Granted there are negatives, such as the rare hacker or overzealous administrators, but if you don't step on admin toes and work together, even the fastest aimbotter can be overtaken by a squad of six.

However, I joined late in the game, in the 1.41 patch, so I wouldn't know how the older patches would play like.

IO did destroy bf2 in the sense that every 2 out of 3 populated Bf2 servers are fucking 24/7 Karkand IO w/FF Off.

Also I blame it on the admins. and the rise in PB kicks that started around a year and a half ago...really gets annoying.

Oh yeah, and the anti cheat programs that fail to easily stop servers from crashing and hackers.

The movement is shit and it has some messed up built in sensitivity that makes aiming more random than skill.

it's a game I love to hate I guess, can't see me quitting yet.
