The irony of guns, is that they can save lives.

not that there's anything wrong with that...
I'd probably say M1 Garand, FAMAS and the Steyr AUG.

You don't like the Leupold?rdx-fx wrote:
If I had to pick ONE weapon as a general purpose do-it-all rifle, the M110 in 7.62x51.
(Or a similarly configured Armalite AR-10 + Krieger barrel + Geissele trigger + Nightforce scope + Magpul PRS stock + Daniel Defense free-float fore-end)

I don't think any semi is going to be as accurate as a bolt rifle at long range. But they were dropping dudes at 100-600m when we were using them.Reciprocity wrote:
I haven't done much research on these new fangled semiautos sniper rifles. Are they as accurate as the M24 at extended ranges?
Leupold is a pretty good scope. I'd put it in the middle price/performance-wise. For a hunting rifle, it's fine. For a military rifle, it has issues.Reciprocity wrote:

lol, I was sorta teasing.rdx-fx wrote:

1) Stadia wires (crosshairs) can come loose too easily
2) Seals are not as rugged as they should be, and leak if subjected to any abuse.
3) Turret adjustments aren't always repeatable. First stop after buying a Leupold is the aftermarket shop, for replacement turret hardware.
4) Glass is not as good as it could be (optical clarity, color trueness, low-light transmissiveness) = eye fatigue after a few less minutes.
Some of the Leupolds cost as much as a Nightforce, Schmidt & Bender, IOR, or Zeiss -but they are NOT in the same league for military or competition shooting.
For an easy-to-read comparison of scopes;
http://www.6mmbr.com/optics.html
Edit: and if you're hunting/shooting when it's nearly/mostly dark out - go Schmidt und Bender. They were designed from the start as an optic for hunting german predators at twilight. (The animal variety, not the "have a seat over here" human variety... in case that was unclear).
Edit: short executive summary of following text - Current semi-auto sniper rifles are capable of holding the same, if not better, accuracy as compared to previous bolt-action rifles. Your mileage may vary. Not available in Pink, Lavender , or chartruse. not for sale in NY, NJ, CA, or ILReciprocity wrote:

I've got a USO ST-10 on my target rifle. I love my MOA reticle and my EREK knob.
Somehow that gun reminds me of this one, which I guess would be my alltime favorite: the Astartes Godwyn pattern MkVb.Roc18 wrote:

The m21 got adopted in the 1960's and the m24 got adopted in the 1980's, so it shouldn't come as a surprise the m110 is being adopted right now.SgtHeihn wrote:
I just like how the Army is so quick to drop the M24, they just adopted it not that long ago. They go from the M21 to M24 to M110, learn from the Marines and keep multiple options in your inventory M40A3, SR25, DMR(M14) and M107. With that you have all your missions covered.
The original M40 series has its roots in Vietnam. The SR-25/M110 is based off the AR-10(1950's). The M24 was only adopted in 1988 which is ultra modern technology in military terms. The Army is very-very knee jerk when dealing with things, which can be good and bad.War Man wrote:

That's one of the differences with the branches.SgtHeihn wrote:
