Even PCI-E x1 has about enough bandwidth for physics. But, as always, more is better.

At idle:

Fan @ auto 67C
Fan @ 30% 67C
Fan @ 50% 54C

I have heard that this card runs hot, so are these temps ok?

Auto will do it just fine.
