That's just dumb, Mek.
Wrong. Compare the roads in Canada and France, as I've done over the course of over a decade. I can tell you that most NA drivers would be either in an at-fault or stalled ('cos most cars are manual there) within the first few minutes. ever heard of a roundabout? If you are, you're lucky. They put one in Ottawa a few years ago, utter disaster. Even now people have a lot of trouble with right-of-way. Moreover, roads on this side of the pond aren't straight, ever. As M. ekstizzle said, they aren't made for cars, only adapted to them. Thus, no straight lines, and usually a hell of a lot of cobblestones (Paris ftw.). And show me where in NA you can find this:

Ok, I said it wrong:

I wanna pass my test as fast as possible.

Lol, I don't wanna go speeding or any shit like that, I just want a vehicle to get to and from places as I'm sick of relying on fucking buses.

I wish my dad would let me practise in his car, but "It's not good to learn in". He drives a Ford Explorer XLT. Yeah, it's a bit big, but it can't make things worse for me, can it?

My girlfriend's mother said I could in her car, but that never happened... None of my friends are 21 or over and have been driving for 3 years...

I just need to persuade my dad, I think. Do you lot think it would be so bad to practise and just get experience in his truck?

He probably just doesn't want me to crash the thing

In Maryland, you can get a learner's permit at 15 years and 9 months. You have to take a short theory test (it's fucking easy, just get 17 out of 20 questions right) and then you get your permit in the mail a couple of days later. This permit lets you drive legally with an adult in the front passenger seat who is at least 21 and has had his license for 3 years or more.

After 60 hours of driving (10 of them at night), and 30 hours of driving school you can take the restricted license test at age 16 and 3 months. This involves both a theory test and a driving test on a closed course with cones lulz. If you pass you get a restricted license. I think a year after you get upgraded to your full license.

What's fucking stupid is that I've been driving constantly since September, and I just realized I need these 30 hours of driving school. Even though I already know how to fucking drive. I really wish I was 18 because then I think you only have to take 10 hours of driving school (which are all about drunk driving and such).

In AUS in the state of ye sunnyshines (QLD), you can get your learners when you're 16. This means that you must have a person that has had an open licence for a year supervising, only direct family members between 11pm and 5am (who drives around then anyway?), must show big fat yellow L plates, get 100 hours of driving (at least 10 hours night time driving too) and all this shit. To get that its a theory test. Simple, really.
Then at 17 or whenever you've had Ls for a year you can go for P1s. You can drive by yourself, but you follow same rules bar the 100 hours and supervisor and instead put red P plates on the car.
Then after a year of that you get your P2s, which is the same thing but instead you get that for 2 years and the P is green instead of red.
Then after that you get open licence. So at this rate (Im trying for my P1 licence on the 3rd of march), I'll get open licence at age 20. FFUUUUU

And now they're talking about making it 250 hours experience for learners. I barely (cough) managed to get 100. Its fucking rediculous.

That's a dumb response. Driving in easy conditions is easy, driving in difficult conditions is difficult.

The conditions in Europe tend to be much more difficult than those in the US. I've driven in the UK, continental Europe and the US and it is much more difficult in Europe. Particularly in towns like Rome, Amsterdam (not really geared towards cars, what with all those cobbled streets and canals) and Paris.

Australian Laws: Get Learners permit when you're 16, and 2 years after receiving your learners you need to have logged atleast 120 hours in a diary, signed by supervising drivers, car registration numbers, supervisor drivers license number, reading on the odometer before and after your drive and traffic conditions.

I think you guys have it pretty easy

Learning to drive can not be done by simulation. You can buy the disks for the hazard perception part of the theory test it plays like a video and you click when you notice a possible hazard. Practice this alot as this is the most difficult part of the theory test.

what i would recommend if you want some practice in handling etc. is to get a ps2 and Gran Turismo (3 or 4) and use that for learning handling, cornering etc.
God no. Learning high speed 'handling' is the last thing you need at this point.
Road sense, practise in applying the theory, anticipation, awareness of other road users, learning to be aware of whats happening 360 degrees around you are what you need.

Florida is even easier. 3 hour Alcohol read up and test (can take it online at home so you can easily cheat). 40 questions 20driving questions and 20 signs questions for permit. 40hours day and 10hours night for one year of receiving the permit. Then driving test in a parking lot at the dmv to get license.

Well, that depends. Driving different cars feels different, due to the layout. For instance, some pedals are close together, height of the seat, responsiveness of the gearstick, height of the car...etc.
Whenever I take a company car out, it always takes me about 20mins to get used to it because it is so much difference to drive. Its hard to explain unless you have done it. I once went to London in a Laguna, and for some reason, half of the time when I wanted to go from 1st-2nd, I managed to do 1st-4th...that was interesting when pulling away from the lights Its all down to the feel, and an XLT is a much bigger car than you will be learning in

Well my first lesson went ok. He did the usal, talk me through all the basics, and I got the car moving down a road twice. I "Kangaroo'd" a bit the first time, but other than that it seemed ok.

Although less than 10MPH felt pretty fast... But I heard that's normal I don't have my next lesson until next tuesday, which is kinda gay, cos I wanna keep learning while it's all fresh in my head.

I think the whole start-off sequence is a bit confusing and much for me right now, like finding the bite and pulling off the clutch slowly, remembering so much at once, but I know it's gonna feel natural soon enough.

I think theory wise, I'm pretty much sorted. I read the highway code off my DS to and from College, as well as take practise tests and I got this Hazard Perception application that trains you in that sense.

I just wanna keep going at it!
