I'm sorry but how is it it "insane" to have floods in the North and fires in the South? Am I missing something? Aus is a huuuge continent. It's like saying America's weather conditions are insane because they have tornado's in the Mid-West at the same time as blizzards in New England and heat-waves in Nevada.

Big sympathies though, I have a few friends backpacking out in Australia... pretty sure they're not in Victoria though. Extremely tragic if some of the damage and loss of life caused was due to the reckless or even malicious actions of others. Should be hung, no excuses about it... massive financial damages and a loss of human life, not so fun.

Well, considering Queesland has been in a chronic drought over the last few years...

It is believed that at least some of the deaths were a result of arson. The news has also reported that the Attorney-General will be seeking to charge the arsonists with murder. Should slap terrorism in with it too.

Make it treason, or whichever offense gets them the heaviest punishment.

i didnt mean insane in terms of weather... we are a big country, shit happens.... but insane in terms of the lives being lost in 2 large natural disasters (if u can call them that since it seems alot of the fires were caused by arson)

Not only are we the smallest of the 7 continents, we probably only count as 1 or 2 States in America.

You do realise that?

With the amount of damage and death caused by this, you won't need to hit 'em with anything higher. The jail terms'll stack; I wouldn't be surprised at several-hundred years being handed down.

It will most like be labelled as manslaughter, as I think thats the rule, as they did not intend to kill or something like that.

Imagine an entire town, that you've seen before, been there, gotten a pie and coke there before.
Now imagine that entire fucking town being wiped out in the space of 1/2 hour. Kinglake was wiped out incredibly fast.

arson, other fire laws, willful damage, destruction of property and over 130 counts of manslaughter must add up though. hopefully

At the very LEAST it's 'Intent to Cause Harm' by doing it deliberately. Whoever gets pinned with this will be fucking CRUCIFIED, be it by Jury or Judge-alone.

That, and send them to a (Victorian) prison like HM Prison Barwon, a max security one. They will get their punishment in no time..

It's almost worse than ash wednesday :S. It's ash wednesday v2.

An interesting question has to be posed. If you know that you willingly started that fire, regardless of your intentions or failure of foresight, would you turn yourself in to face the courts for the manslaughter charges and damage bills, or would you run and hide and carry that guilt with you for the rest of your life?

Hope none of our Australian members are caught up in this and thoughts remain with you, hope it comes to and end soon and arson hasn't been proved correct.

Thanks '27. I'm in Sydney myself, but I'm sure there are some Aussie members living in Victoria.

Looks like it is indeed arson - http://www.theage.com.au/national/polic … -82d6.html - but those fuckers don't have long left before they are caught.
